Hi everyone, this is my 1st message in this forum. I have emailed two people that seem to actively participate on the forum. Anyway, I've been a Christian for 8 years or so now. I love being in felowship with my Lord and Savior however I can't seem to pray. No problem lifting others up to Him, it's talking with Him about me and my messed up head. I have no sense of discipline at all in my life and no motivation to be disciplined. I truely am a pathetic mess. No desires, no intrests, no hope, no no no. No light at the end of the tunnel, actually no tunnel..I'd be just fine sleeping all day, not talking to anyoone...blah,blah,blah...see, i told u all i was pathetic....sorry 4 all thhe negative, it's just the way it is 4 me...m-a-y-b-e- someday... well thanks to midwest 4 this forum..I don't have the program yet'cause of financial reasons but maybe i'll be able to get them soon. Maybe they will help, maybe...

Kathy,
Sounds like you are dealing with some depression. You are not alone. Many people who come to this forum are dealing with the same situation as you are. Many of them have overcome the problem. Depression is serious and the only way to overcome it is to make yourself do those things you don't feel like doing. DO THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU FEEL LIKE DOING!!!!!! Do it and keep doing it until your feelings change. Coming up against depression is difficult but unless you do something about it, you won't get better. YOU are the only one that can fix this problem!!!! Since you are a Christian; I would highly recommend a great workbook by William Backus, Phd called "Learning to tell myself the truth". My Christian Psychologist recommended this book to me and it helped me greatly. You can find it online or at your local Barnes and Noble bookstore. Also books by Dr. Archibald Hart are also very good. He has books on anxiety and depression and also suffered himself at one time. This website is very helpful as well and gives good advice on overcoming depression. http://www.ldsdepression.com/techniques_for_coping_with_depression.htm Welcome to the forum. I am sure you will find the support and friendship you need here regarding your depression. Be strong! |

Hi Kathy g,
I'm so sorry to hear what seems to be depression which can make one tired and disinterested in things with lack of discipline to accomplish what needs to be done. James 1:6-8 says in part: "Let him keep asking in faith . . ." I think the reason you might have difficulty praying is because you are tired from depression and perhaps don't feel good about yourself because of your general disinterest in things. What is commendable is that as a Christian you see the need of prayer and that it is something you need to work on. In view of what James wrote you might find the reading of Hebrews Chapter 11 where it defines faith and provides examples of men of faith very helpful. Some people find comfort reading the Psalms. Others undergoing trials find the endurance of Job helpful reading the book after his name. Others appreciate the wisdom in what is written at Philippians 4:6-7 where we learn how not to be anxious and by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving letting our petitions be make know to God and therefore find the peace of God that excels all thought and guards our hearts and our mental powers by means of Christ Jesus. If you are at loss for words in prayer perhaps you can try reading out loud the Lord's prayer that Jesus provided for us at Matthew 6:9-14. Wishing you well, Victoria |
