has anybody tried to sleep 9-10 hours a day for a certain period of time and has it helped out?

I think that when you are at a stage of high stress or anxiey, getting a bit more sleep can help. I know I felt less confused, my thinking seemed more clear and I felt calmer. Our bodies use alot of energy, so the extra rest can help. Wink

If you find that you can't sleep that long (I'm lucky to get 6 then I am wide awake) try napping for 30-45 minutes at some point during the day. For some it makes them more tired but for just as many it restores your energy. Just don't substitute caffeine for lack of sleep, that's the wrong way to handle it.

Hey Mike, I may not be the one to answer this, I have worked nights for 15 years and now am trying to switch back to sleeping at night like the rest of the world. I'm having problems going to bed at night and then I only sleep for about 6 hours and then am drowsy all afternoon. Should I sit in my recliner, I am GONE!

I just wanted to say that most of the "health" info out now says that 9-10 hours on a regular basis is too much sleep, that we should try for 7 or 8. I personally think that 10 hours uninterrupted sleep in row would be wonderful right now!

Thanx that gives me hope and hopefully enough motivation to stop motivating myself to do so many things before bedtime. 9-10 hours does seem nice. I've also tried napping and i usually feel like trash right after the nap, these naps are usually 1-2 hours though.

i think it should counter balance with activity. if you wanna sleep an hour more, try going on a 30 min walk. you know, before i was hypnotised, walking helped my anxiety alot. hafta burn off that adrenaline somehow. at the start of a panic attack, i would walk around my block, and by the time i got back, i would feel fine. and, with the extra activity, sleeping a little more might come naturally. Our bodies have there own clocks. What works for one person is not what works for the next. Listen to your own body it will tell you how much sleep it needs. When that happens adust your sleep habits. I worked for 8 years on 3rd shift. 10:15PM till 6:15Am . It took awhile to become adusted to the change. I would sleep with a light on at night because it simulated day time. It worked and I finally became used to sleeping during the night. Best of luck to you and I know that you can work it out in the best way that helps you.

That makes alot of sense because you are using the energy that you get from the stress response, I am going back on my routine of exercising 5 days a week but i'll do it in the morning to prepare me for the day Smiler if i need to do something at night walking might just be the thing. I don't mind walking at all i do it an hour and a half everyday when i'm walking to school and back.

I have noticed that I can't get more then 8 hours of sleep unless i go to bed around 10pm. I could go to sleep at 2am and even have the next day off and sleep for 8 hours and feel like trash. So my goal is to get to bed at or before 10pm and then see how my body reacts and to accomplish this i just gave my notice at work. They usually have me working until 10 or 10:30 and then i get home about 11 or 11:30 and on top of that i got school so i think it'll give me more time to get to sleep earlier.

Sleep is definatly one of our weak points. Just remember positive self talk and use your relaxation tape. Give yourself permission to go to sleep as your body can. The naps are a wonderful idea. I have sometimes woke up with anxious feelings, but good breathing seems to help.

From a person who has several sleep disorders... I was told to make sure that I get seven hours of sleep each night. No more and no less. Also, to try and get to bed at the same time every night and get up close to the same time each morning. This has really helped me to deal with my anxiety and depression. Plus, it has helped with my sleep apnea and multiple sleep latency. When I don't follow it, everything seems to get out of whack. Maybe these suggestions will help you, too, I hope. Take care.
