I have a job interview Wed, that's $2 more an hour than what I'm making now and I get paid every week instead of every 2 weeks. But, this job is way out of my comfort zone! Yikes!!! Part of me says, GO FOR IT, YOU CAN DO THIS!! Then I think, God, what if I can't do the distance????? I need some advice .....Just not sure..

Go for it SkyEyes!!! I went through a similar experience in October -- good job offer - way out of comfort zone. Instead of picturing everything that could go wrong, start visualizing a very positive interview. Instead of saying "what if I can't do the distance, replace it with "what if I can?" We will never know what we're capable of until we face our fears and conquer them. If you've been through the program, you have the skills to make it through this. Trust them and yourself. Although these experiences can be difficult, you will feel stronger once you've made it through to the other side. Good luck to you!

Mountaingirl,
Thank you so, so much for your reply! I haven't finished the program just yet, I'm still on tape 4.I have awhile to go yet before I finish.I am very worried about the distance so, I've just told myself that I'm going to go to the interview, see how it goes, see what kind of work they do,and take it from there.I don't have to make a decision right away. That's taking a lot of pressure off my back. Something you said in your response to me is going to stay embedded in my head: We don't know what we're capable of until we conquer our fears...WOW. I LIKED THAT. Those are words to live by. I can tell in your responses to me that you've come a long, long way.You should really be proud of yourself. You're an inspiration, believe me. I'll keep you posted about the job. God Bless, sky |

Hi SkyEyes! Sounds like you are doing a good job of thinking things through. Its funny, but when I read your post, I thought of a quote from one of my favorite books. I don't know if you've ever read Illusions by Richard Bach but there is a line in there that I have highlighted. It says, "Argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they're yours." We are so good when it comes to arguing about how we CAN'T do something. Just imagine how powerful we could be if we learned to argue about how well we CAN do things!
I could relate to your post because I too have been contemplating interviewing for another job. My problem is I can't tell if I'm not going to the interview because I fear the interview or if I really don't want to change jobs. I remember this topic being discussed on tape 12 and I now understand what they were talking about. I've gotten to a point where I have to really question my motivation when I am faced with situations that have typically caused me difficulty. Ahhhh, just another step on the road to recovery! Thanks for the positive, encouraging words. I have my good days and bad days but am finding the good days are outnumbering the bad days by a huge margin! Recovery from this really is a process and can actually be very rewarding and, should I dare to even mention this, fun! Please let me know how your interview works out. Take care! |

Moutaingirl,
I decided not to take the job.I'm ok with that though because I am working and I do like the job where I'm at.So, I'm going to hang there for awhile. I can relate to your interview anxiety....EEEEEKKKKKK!! They can be very, very anxiety producing! My therapist told me once to just present myself the best way I can and that's all we can really do.If they turn us down then, it's their loss, not ours.Something better is out there for us. Maybe your fear of this other job is really a fear of the unknown. I'm guessing here. Maybe your expectations are too high. Will this job bring more responsibility? Maybe your expectations are scaring you.I know how that is. If you're happy where you're at, then you should stay.If not, maybe it's time to make a change. You owe it to yourself.Maybe this other job will be the best thing to ever happen to you.Maybe you should take your time and really think it through before you make a choice. That's what I did and I'm ok with that. I haven't reached the "fun" part of recovery just yet..LOl. I'm still in limbo right now.I'm working on getting to that point though. Keep me posted about your interview/job too, ok? I'd love to know. You're in my prayers, Sky |

Thanks for the response Sky. I just had a really interesting turn of events with the potential job opportunity. After talking with my former supervisor about 2 1/2 weeks ago (he now works for the new company), I still had not made a decision as to whether I wanted to interview for the job. I've also been absolutely swamped at work and have had no time to really think about it, much less go for a 2-3 hour interview! Well, guess who called me this afternoon? My former supervisor! He was wanting to know if I was still interested, and to make a long story short, he wanted to let me know that they were holding my resume and still wanted to interview me.
I think that you had some good observations in your response. I think there is an uncertainty about the unknown along with the dread of interviews. I like the people I work with but have also been frustrated at my job. My decision to interview for the new job changes from day to day. Seems I really should go interview if for no other reason than to truly determine if it is something for me. I told my former supervisor that I would call him by next Friday to let him know when I would be able to come for an interview. We'll see what happens. Glad to hear that you are happy with your decision to stay with your current job. Did you go for the interview before deciding to stay put? Just hang in there -- the fun part of recovery will come soon enough!! [This message has been edited by mountaingirl (edited 03-08-2001).] |

SKYEYES and Mountain Girl....reading the two of you commenting to one another back and forth was so uplifting for me!!!! It's 2am, just got off the phone after a very difficult discussion, and randomly clicked on this particular posting. It caused me to smile alot.(how do you get those happy faces??) I'm new to this Program, although certainly not new to panic attacks. I absolutely love the quote by R. Bach, "Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours"! Fantastic!! How true that is. So, i've been sitting here trying out arguing for my possibilities, insisting on the boundless freedom that is mine!!! Our's!!!! Great quote. Okay, i'm off to bed, which is piled high with Program 'stuff', tapes and books by Ram Dass, (one of my favourite teachers) and some other inspirational material i am back on track with, after having stepped aside from all of it for much too long. God bless us all! Linda

Moutaingirl,
Maybe your frustration at work is trying to tell you something.Did you ever hear of Anthony Robbins? I'm sure you have.Anyway, he says when you feel frustrated, Welcome it! It means you're going to make a change! I think this other company is very interested in you. They obviously see the potential/skills you have. Maybe you should go to the interview, see what they have to offer to you.If you're not sure about the job when you leave the interview, ask him/her if you can have a couple days to think about it.You don't have to take the job if you don't want to.They came knocking at your door, it's not the other way around. Linda, Thank you for the kind words! I'm so glad we made you feel good. You're response to us made me smile, too!God Bless, Sky |
