Hi Mikey.
I teach BSN students. I love encouraging anyone who wants to further their education to do so! Good for you for even considering it! Will you have more responsibility as an RN? Yes - your scope of practice will increase. Is it scary? At times, but you will also be learning the tools to take on that additional responsibility. Will you make it? Only you can determine this part of it. I love it when students show a thirst for knowledge by asking questions or coming to my office or emailing me to learn and understand more. It shows me they have the drive to be successful in the program. - they want it.

Tape 12 is all about change. I just started it this week and it really has hit home - change can be hard and I had no conception of what secondary gains were. You may want to ask yourself if your fears and "what ifs" are excuses to not continue your education and to stay stuck. What are your ultimate goals? If your goal is to get your RN, then go for it or at least take the steps to find out what you need to do to accomplish your goals.

You can do it!

It's not that big of a risk, Mikey. If you don't like being an RN, you can go back to being an LPN. Yes, I know it is a big investment of time and money, but you are investing in YOU. And if people ask why you are still doing LPN work with an RN licence, again, it is about YOU and what YOU want to do.... not what others want you to do. But you'll never know unless you try.

P.S. - I have my RN licence and I choose to work for the MWC. Job satisfaction is important to me.

Mikey,
Bakedpears is right about selecting employment that makes you happy!

I'd encourage you to look at your state's Nurse Practice Act as it will define your responsibilities and accountability based on what license you have.

I wish you luck in your future.
