Hi-I am going to take Zyban next week to stop smoking. On some of the quit smoking sites there is good info about Zyban. It works great for some and for others not so good just like most things. From what I understand as long as you are determined to quit it does work. Zyban is an antidepressant and there are side effects like most drugs. My Doctor told me I could experience some irritability, dry mouth and insomina the first week. Now my cousin is taking it and she says if you take the second pill at 4 in the afternoon there is no insomina. So I am going to find out very soon for myself. Good luck and after I start taking it I will post here and let ya know how I am doing. Timber
Timber, I didnt know that it was an antidepressant, now why would a stop smoking aid be that i wonder. today was my first day and I'm having a bit of difficulty sleeping and a bit anxious. I'm hoping that that will pass soon. I was told for the first 3 days only take 1 tablet then increase it to 2 after that. Was that what you were told to do? How is your cousin doing on Zyban? and Thank you for your imput. Kim
Hi Kim-The other name for Zyban is Wellbutrin-From what I understand it works on the brain to take the cravings away. Apparently when Wellbutrin came out and people were taking it for depression they lost their desire to smoke. My cousin says it works great but with any addiction we have to have it our mind that we are quitting and that is the key. Now what she did tell me was when I start the second pill to take it at 4pm each day so I would not get insomina. I am starting on Thrus. to take Zyban. There are some really good websites about quitting with lots of tips which I checked out as well. Also remember what works for one person does not work for another. Seems to me that this smoking addiction is a very individualized issue in terms of everyone's addiction is different as is their way of quitting. My sister-in-law used the patch and has been quit for 5 years. I plan to use the skills from the program to help me quit as well.Anyhow I see my Doctor on Wed. to get the Zyban so I am going to ask him a few more Questions. Take Care and Good Luck and I'II keep posting on how I am doing. Timber
Hi there Safe & Timber---- I was just wondering how the Zyban was going. I took Zyban about (LOL) 4 years ago. My son begged me to quit, and I promised I would when I turned 40.
I took the Zyban, and I felt sooooo sleepy all the time and had dry mouth terribly, but I persisted. I just took a nap every day to help, and drank lots of water. The zyban worked. I stopped enjoying the taste of smoking. Like my taste buds were zapped. It became simply a habit, not something that I enjoyed.
I picked that day that I was gonna stop (like I was told), and I kept myself busy (we went to Disney Land so I was kept fairly busy for 5 days). I still haven't picked up another one - and won't, God willing. I'm coming up on 4 years soon. Yeah!
I was a pack a day girl for about well 20 years give or take. You can do it.
Rose, I think that it is wonderful that Zyban worked so wonderfully for you, as for me, from the very first night i could ot sleep and had really bad anxiety, so I choose not to take it, I started chewing the nicorette gum and will follow there program, it would have been nice if I could have quit with Zyban because I believe that it is a better way to quit then Nicorette gum. I'm very proud of you for quitting smoking and you have been smoke free for 4 years, wow what a great thing Rose, keep up the great work. God bless and have a great day Kimberly
