Ok. Here's my story. I have been on and off Prozac for the last four years. My bad habit is I go on it for 3 to 4 months, feel good, get busy again, and then go off of them, figuring I don't need them. I am bad with pills as it is, I can't seem to even take my b-control properly. I haven't taken them all summer did pretty well, some bouts of anxiety, but now my bad time is here, during the winter and I know I need to probably go back on them, but now am doubting whether it worked for me to begin with or maybe I should try something else, but I think maybe I am looking for a "quick fix" to take it all away. What do you think? Also, whenever I have gone back on it, I have been at my all time low and it feels like it takes forever to help me, just wondering how long it has taken for people to feel better.

poohbear,

Your answer isn't medication. Sure meds help when things are at their worst but it doesn't fix things for you. The reason why you go back to square one when you come off the meds is because you are not really doing anything about your problem other than medication. From the sounds of it, you do want a quick fix but even the medication is taking too long for you to work. Truth is, there is NO easy way to overcome this. Sure you can take a pill and after a while it may make things seem better; perhaps better enough to skip out on changing those things that caused you to enter into depression/anxiety in the first place.

Try changing your skills; the way you look at yourself and life; try taking better care of yourself. In doing these things, you will find true recovery.

Hi Sunset
I have the program and I know I need to work with it everyday and that would help me, my trouble is getting the motivation to keep at it, even when I am having bad days I get a little motivation to listen to the tapes. I have only listened up to tape 3 and then I don't keep at it or work on the skills and then when I have bad anxiety I let it scare me and become vulnerable to the fear and let it take over and then only feel that medication can help.

Thanks for replying back to me by the way. I have read alot of your posts and they do inspire me.

poohbear,

Do you want to get better? If so, then you have NO other choice but to make yourself DO the work.

Many of us had a lack of motivation and many of us still have days when we don't feel like doing the work but none of us can afford to stay negative. "None of us can afford the luxury of a negative thought" !!!!

The fact is that YOU have the power to CHOOSE what you want to do. You can either stay stuck and not doing anything about it because you don't feel like it, or you can CHOOSE to practice your skills so that you will feel better.

Remember, feelings are an END result of what you've been telling yourself. So if you feel a particular way, it's because you are talking to yourself a particular way. If you want to feel different, then you MUST begin telling yourself different things !!!!

It's all about CHOICES poohbear! What choices will you make today regarding your own recovery?
A big step in recovery is taking responsibility for our own behaviors and choices.

Perhaps you need a coach that will help you stay motivated. Coaches can be someone that's willing to support you and encourage you daily to do what you must do. It's also a person that holds you accountable. The MWC has coaches and I've heard they are very good. Perhaps this is something to think about.
