I would like to ask my reg doctor if she could refer me to see a psychiatrist, that way maybe I could have some tests done to check for any biochemistry problems, or other things that is causing my social anxiety/minor depression. Is that possible to see if it's my brain chemistry w/serotonin levels being off, etc? Any advice on who I should see for tests and if needed possibly temporary meds?
TIA! |

Tia,
There are tests that you can have done but insurance does not cover them and they are very expensive. Naturopathic Physicians can do these for you. I honestly don't think that a psychiatrist will test your chemistry before writing a prescription. Psychiatrists specializing in writing prescriptions for psychiatric drugs. If a person suffers from depression and anxiety then it's probable that their brain chemicals are not balanced. Prolonged anxiety and/or depression can cause this imbalance. Many, many people have realized that you can balance your brain chemicals by using cognitive-behavioral therapy for a good length of time. Science has even proven that a simple smile can increase your brain chemicals !!! This is why being positive is important and healthy. The longer a person is negative and suffers from prolonged depression and/or anxiety, the longer it may take to bring these chemicals up to balance. Patience is important, especially when going the recovery route without medication. There are many different avenues you can take towards recovery. I wish you the best as you find the best route for yourself. |
