I've heard that it works for panic/anxiety before but I'm wondering to what extent does it really work. Does it just calm you or does it really stop panic/anxiety? Does it make you sleepy? How much do you have to take? I am currently on BuSpar and I don't like it. It makes me feel dizzy and tired right after I take it and I still feel edgy at times. I don't think that I want to take a medication anymore and looking for alternatives. I keep bouncing back and forth with this and would like some suggestions. doodles

Dear Doodles ,

I think Valerain Root is to promote sleep.

When I am feeeling low I excercise( treadmill, bike brisk walk, weighjtlifting, any one of theese for an hour boost me mentally and physically.

I wold also recomend something else that is simple and a positive escape, a good book.

Keep in mind you will never have a total abscence of blue times it is part of the human condition.

Wish you Well Dood

I am so amazed at how many here on the forum are taking drugs that are not working. We don't seem to be able to get across to these doctors that we still feel panicky and that the side effects are just as bad as the panic---and seem to make it worse.

I think Xanax is the best for getting rid of panic while doing the program. Unfortunately, many "uninformed" doctors still blab the "Xanax can be very addicting" crap.

Over-the-counter, "One-A-Day" brand sleep aid has Valerian Root (used before Valuim was invented) and KavaKava in it. I used it as I was coming off of Xanax and just working the program. I no longer use either, though I stached some Xanax for a rainy day. It's my "security blanket", I know it works and I carry one in my purse in case someday I need it. which I probably won't.
