I have been on and off prozac for the last three years. I would take it for about two to three months and then go off of them, I guess because I felt better and felt I could handle and work on my anxiety without them. But I never did work on my anxiety and learn any skills while I was off of my prozac.
Anyways, I have been having bad anxiety and have started back on my prozac, only on day 4. But someone told me (not a dr.) that when you go on and off them like I did, they may not work for you when you do go back on the same med. Has anyone heard of this? Now this thought is totally freaking me out. And I am scared that my prozac will not help me now. Thanks. |

Poohbear,
All I can think of to say is that, it is okay if Prozac doesn't work for you. The fact that it did work for you once, is a good sign. There are many anti-depressants out there and if your body worked with one, then it can probably work with others. If Prozac no longer works don't be discouraged because you can always try something else. I have been on different medications myself and they all helped in their own little way. When Paxil quite working I tried a variation - Celexa. So I guess my whole point is that there is always other options. Prozac is just one of many routes!! Sunny |

poohbear,
dont get anxious cause one med no longer works, they have come so far since prozac, and there are new meds out there, you may have to try another, but dont get panicky about it. some times we have to try several to get the right thing. I took celexa for 4 yrs did wonderful, then it just quit working for me. i will find another to help me, but i know its out there, if im patient, Talk to you doc and see what recommendations he has. Have peace about this, seriouly there are other meds that help as well as prozac,, God Bless ya |

Thanks for the kind words and replying.
I went to my doctor and she relieved me of some of my worries. She feels that it will work for me again as it did before but to keep taking them and working on the program too. I'm still very scared and anxious right now, but I think it's because I am more worried about taking medication and what will happen and all the what if's that are going thru my head about them. My doctor also gave me a very low dose of anti-anxiety medication, as she knows how I am with pills and am very scared of becoming dependant or addicted. But she thinks it will help me during the first few weeks of taking my medication. So again, I am hoping that working with the program and taking my meds properly that I will come out ahead. This forum helps me so much. Thanks again, for replying. |
