Hello...
I'm curently taking Paxil 40mg once a day. I was switched from Paxil CR since there was/is some problem with I don't know what that the pharmacy would not have in stock when it came time for my refill. I was taking 37.5mg of Paxil CR. My question is.... Has anyone had any different effects (good or bad)from one or the other? Which one worked best for you? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
uknee33

uknee33,

I am currently undergoing the same problem. Apparently, the pharmaceutical companies stopped making Paxil CR. I was also at 37.5mg. The regular Paxil had been okay, but not what I need, so my doctor has recently switched me to Lexapro at an equivalent dose of 10mg. Still this has not been enough for me so now I am taking two 10mg tablets. Twenty milligrams seems to be doing the trick. Maybe you should ask your doctor to talk to you about different options such as Lexapro. It seems to be working well for me. I suggest trying out 10mg for the first couple weeks and see how you feel. If you think that dose is too low, consult your doctor about 20mg or whatever higher dose he/she thinks is best. Hope this helps!

Hi Abby:

Thanks for the reply. My doctor did want to switch me to Lexapro but I guess that I am doing O.K. on 40mg of Paxil once a day. She did say that once Paxil CR is back on the market, she will put me back on it. I kinda want that since I read on www.paxilcr.com that it is going to be available again by mid-year. I'm glad that you are doing well on the Lexapro. Thanks again!

Wishing you the best,
uknee33

Thanks! That's good to know! I thought it was never going to come back. I hope when you switch back that it helps you but I love Lexapro and I don't think I'll be switching back. Thanks for the reply! Wishing you the best also!

Hi there,

I also was on the Paxil CR and when I got it refilled I was given just Paxil. Is it OK for you just to switch from the Paxil CR to Paxil without weaning off the CR or can you just start taking the regular Paxil??

I haven't started the regular Paxil yet. Did you have any problems switching??

Love to hear from you.

Hi luvtoshop:

Actually I didn't have to ween off of it. I took my last Paxil CR and the next day took the Paxil. I really didn't feel anything. But I much prefer the CR. I guess that since it's a control-release, I just feel that it stays in my system longer vs. the regular Paxil. I take 40mg of the regular Paxil once a day. I don't know if that stays in my system as long as the CR. I hope this helps!

Thanks. It does help. My pharmacist told me that the CR and regular Paxil were pretty much the same drug. The CR was just a marketing thing. I am only taking the 20mg. I have been on and off for about 4 years. I wean myself off for a while then something starts to stress me and I'm back on again. I really didn't have any problems going off of it. Some of the stories I have read about weaning off were pretty scarey. I hate taking the medicine but it does make me feel better, and I have to function. I have two small children.

Thanks for replying. It definitely helps to talk with someone who understands how you feel.

Chris,
The reason they took paxil cr off the market was because its timed release and the tablets were cracked and not holding together right. So, they pulled them off the market, but there isnt a big difference between paxil cr and paxil. But, if they have that problem solved, good for them. Smiler Nelly
