Hi Grateful...me again.

Wow, I guess you would get sick! Geezz thats alot to put in your system! Remember they are "supplements"........they are to supplement your diet. Nothing can take the place of real food. There are hundreds of micro and macro-nutrients and enzymes in food that you will never get from supplements. Not to mention fiber. Healthy food is so important and a nice variety will give you lots of what your body and brain need. But 2 reasons (besides several others) to take supplements is if we have been use to eating processed foods, caffiene, lots of junk....our digestive system will have trouble absorbing the nutrients we need from our food. Think of that junk food as a big dough ball waded up in there or coating the lining....and nutrients can't get thru to the bloodstream. Also, with the way commercial farming is these days, our farm soil is so depleted of nutrients. Natural minerals etc. normally in good rich soil. So our produce isn't absorbing the nutrients it needs and our fruits and vegetables are even "vitamin/mineral deficient"! You can grow a product that looks good.....it may even taste ok, but it could be lacking alot. One reason to buy and support organic farms and produce. They pay alot of attention to their soil prep. Anyway, supplements are a good thing, but sometimes they are considered more important than food.

One other note: by taking a multivit.....you can't elliminate the B vits when you start to get sick. The B's will actually feed a virus and infection and all B complex supplements should be kept refridgerated.

I would put even more than a week between all those to get use to. Personally, I dont think you need all them.

Blessings,
Peaches

Hello Ladies!

Grateful, thanks so much for sharing your experience with us. I think it will help those that are eager to try supplements think twice about taking so many at one time. Sometimes it's beneficial to take certain supplements at different times, instead of all at the same time.

Peaches, good to see you here! I hope you are doing well. I agree with everything you said about the need for organic foods and the way the commercial foods are produced. The bible specifically says that soil needs a break every 7 years. God knew exactly the reason for telling us this. Without the 7 year break, the soil does not have a chance to gain back the nutrients it has lost. People are more concerned about $$$ than they are about producing quality, healthy foods. Unfortunately, we don't have an organic foods mart nearby. I'd have to travel an hour just to get to a good market. There certainly is a difference in how organic foods smell and taste!

You say that all B vitamins should be refrigerated ? I purchased "Super B Complex" from Walmart and it was on the shelf. Why would I put it in the refrigerator when it's been sitting on the shelf probably for weeks on end?
I'd love to hear more about this.

Hi Sunset,
Yes, its been awhile. I knew you wanted to get some discussion going about diet, amino acids and chemistry.....glad to see there is some dialog going on finally.

What Dr. Dulin taught me and also those at Purity First (http://www.purityfirst.com)the company where I buy my vits, etc. is that all vitamins should have an expiration date. Many can become rancid or lose their effectiveness if they sit too long. Even light can affect vits so thats why most are in dark bottles or solid ones. Or should be. The B vits in particular are water soluable and evidently suseptable and sensitive to light, temp. and will usually get rancid if not refrigerated or used within 6 months. The B's that I havent used over time have changed color and taste awful if I take them. I burp them up and I dont usually get the "flush" from the B vit Niacin thats so beneficial. Most other vits should be used within a year of their expiration date to ensure effectiveness. But how many supplements do you see with expiration dates? Most food has dates...why not vits? If I'm going to bother taking supplements, then I want good ones and EFFECTIVE ones. I have used Purity for 12 years now and their supplements are top of the line. They make their vits "fresh" and then ship them right out with expiration dates. You can call them and ask them more about such info......ask for Rose or Candy and tell them we were discussing it. They both know me well. 1-800-696-7017.

Also because some vits like C and B's that are water soluable....thats another reason to take them several times over the day. Alot of these vits pass thru quickly in the urine. Vits should be taken an hour before meals or 2 hours after. They have a better chance of absorption. But I cant take my morning vits on an empty stomach...I usually have some eggs and fruit, some water....wait an hour or so, then take them. Gosh I'm probably making all this sound complicated and anyone thinking of taking supplements may be discouraged by what I'm sharing....but please dont be. Its not that big a deal and its easy enough to plan when to take them and what ones.

Well thats my 2 cents. I find talking about nutrition so interesting since I have lived in both worlds.......the unhealthy one with bad food habits and the healthy one with good food habits. Its pretty hard to eat well these days with all the tempting, tasty, quick foods out there, but I have paid dearly for taking short cuts and reverting back. Not worth it.

Nice to talk to you again!

Blessings,
Peaches

Hi Grateful,
Well I am farrr from any expert. This whole health thing is trial and error and I can get very stressed trying to figure it all out and who to believe. So many contradictory opinions!! Makes me crazy and ANXIOUS!! I think MOST people are confused about what is best......including me! But I have over the years tried to simplify things and not go to any one extreme. try to get a sense of what GOD thinks is healthy. And try to line up with that and some of the wisdom out there that seems to sit well with me personally. So I will just share what I think and some stuff I have learned that makes sense to me but its sure not the gospel on health. Take it for what its worth.

Again the first thing I believe is most important is FOOD. Good, healthy, clean food. Not man's food such as processed, tech foods, but simple down to earth whole foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, meats, fish, poultry, eggs. I try to eat and buy a good quality of all these if i can. The less pesticides, additives, hormones, sulfites......that I can find with these products the better. So I do look for certified organic products if I can find them and I dont bat an eye on paying the extra. I have adopted the philosophy that I'm going to pay somewhere......either in preventing disease or treating it. I'm opting for prevention. If I can't find organic then I buy the least offensive brand. I read labels. I will pay more for Murphy's chicken that isnt organic but is free range over Purdue. Murphy's advertizes less processed and the animals are out in "yards" roaming free (thus the name) rather than caged, debeaked, fed arsenic, pumped with hormones....etc and the taste is better. Some of it I do out of humane reasons to.....to support people who handle the raising and slaughter of their animals more humanely. Purdue I have read is the worst. Look at his chiken next time next to a higher quality brand. His is always yellow. Murphys is white or pink. Anyway, I start with real food and try to get the cleanest I can. I try to eat a variety of foods from these catagories above......sometimes we get stuck eating 2-3 fruits all the time. We are missing out on other nutrients offered in other foods. Like kiwi has more C than any orange. So I try to eat a variety each day.....this is challenging. About 3-5 servings of fresh fruit (not canned), 3-5 different veggies, eggs, nuts (raw and unsalted or unroasted), meats (turkey, chicken, beef and pork). try to eat a good portion of protein and less carbs. they make me feel better and give me longer energy. I do better on 2 eggs for breakfast than oatmeal or a muffin. I am not down on meat and I eat alot of it. I will make a burger and it lasts for me for hours. When I was a vegetarian I would have a veggie burger and think I was healthier, but I'd never fill up.....and then I'd be eating carbs, bread, sweets, potatoes trying to feel satisfied. I do try to cook my burger either on my grill where the fat runs off or I'd like to get a George Foreman grill rather than letting it sit in a pan and fry it. Less grease. But we need some fats. As for other foods.......bread and grains. Conflicting thoughts on this out there. I have a histamine problem and wheat, rice, most grains are high in histamine so i avoid them. Yes, we do need fiber, but get it from food. Fruits, veggies, lettuce, nuts.....these are fibers that I think are enough. If we dont load up on alot of breads that seem to block up the intestine like a big dough ball, then these foods should scoure our intestines fine. I do not think fiber supplements are needed or healthy. They are overkill. And I chew my food pretty good so that the stuff gets broken down and more easily absorbed into the bloodstream. We often wolf our food barely chewing and roughage will come out like it went in. Ever see whole corn kernals in your stool?? Bread seems to ferment in the intestines and if you consume alot of sugar...even natural sugars....it attches to that yeasty kind of environment and creates more sugars and ferments. This past June I went completely off all breads and all refined sugar. Gosh stuff was being processed so much better without those things stopping me up. Milk and dairy? We're the only mammals that still drink milk after weaned. And cows milk is for baby cows. We stop manufacturing the enzyme to break down milk sugar after 5-6 yo. Thats why people have such milk tolerance problems. I stay away from it..milk. Its very mucus producing too whic is like sticky paper for germs. Goats milk would be better...smaller animal. Love cheese, but many cheeses have enzymes added to help break it down, but i try to avoid cheese and dairy too. There is plenty of calcium in red meat. And actually refined sugar is known to pull alot of calcium and other vits and mins from the bones and body is trying to assimilate it into the bloodstream. Milk to me is "not a natural". But it was drunk in the Bible. Toss up on that one. And sugar.......no way around it. Its BAD!!!! No doubts on that one for me.

So supplement wise I do take my vits seperate daily and 3 times a day. I take a mineral complex, a B complex, Beta carotene (in morning 1 x) vit c, and iron ferrous fumerate 1x a day (better than iron sulfate that can constipate you). I think these cover alot of needs. Dont need mega doses.....just need a steady dose daily over the day. Most is peed out anyway or not even absorbed. using the GABA and B sounds good. Dr. Dulin never thought much of the Omega 3.....unless you find you're deficient in it. I dont know about that one. Its sure getting alot of air time and praise. I would rather try and find that in food or flax oil. maybe cod liver oil. Dont know. And like i said before.....high quality vits and mins. Oh yeah and lots of water!!! 8-10 glasses a day.

Well now ive written a book. And this is just my speel. I feel pretty healthy at 50. But there is other stuff too like simple living and less to-do's, less stressful stuff to do, good sleep, exercise, stretching......your spiritual life. it all takes effort and we are so rush rush these days. So much plays in. If you notice when many started with panic (including Dr. Janet) its usually after lots of stress and not eating well, or getting down time, sleep, letting the body regroup after birthing or a death.....and the body depletes and then the brain depletes and the whole thing is in crisis.

ok enough.....my two widdle fingers hurt from typing. Everyone works it out trial and error and if you feel better using something then chances are its working for you. Too long to go into lots of detail and thoughts thru the computer. Continue to ask God to guide you....He will.

Love to you always,
Peaches

Dear Grateful,

I also take Andrew's vitamins and know that they are some of the best you can find. I've even had two of my Doctors say that they recommend them too. A major difference is that they are in capsule form. I started about 7 years ago and really like how informative Andrew is when on H.S.N. I tape all of his shows, he just finished up last night for the year. I also do a lot of reading too so I don't just rely upon what one person says. However, I do think that being as that he started this company about 24 years ago adds to his credibility. The list would be too long for me to list here as to what I take. From what you mentioned you have tried of his, all I see is that I might not would take his new fiber prouduct unless you are having trouble in that dept. Also if your taking the omega 3s don't take them at the same time as a fiber product. Unless you eat a really good quanity of cold water fish, the omega 3 is a good one to keep taking. It helps with many things including our brain. They will not become bad on you..that's why he invented the procaps, to preserve their potency. Notice that there is an exp.date on all of his containers. Anyway, I saw that you mentioned his vitamins and thought I would give you a shout. I just love them and feel very confident taking them and with his knowledge of nutrition. Feel free to e-mail if you want to discuss any more about this or even if you just want to shout back at me. ;-)

I've started my book on "Breaking the grip on dangerous emotions". I will contribute to the discussion on the book with you ladies. I just saw Dr. Janet last night on Joni again. My Pastor's wife has been on Joni's show several times too. She is a nutritionist, Lisa Young, and has a fantastic cookbook out. All of the other times that I have seen Dr. Janet Maccaro was on Life Today. Also I have been waiting for my "Living the Dream" series, I ordered it over a month ago but my order got messed up. It is straight now, so anyday! Did you find this series helpful to you? I also wanted you to know that I find all of your post very loving, kind and helpful. Of course you've also made me cry a few times also. Actually I might not should mention this but, I see a ministry for helping people with emotional disorders for you and wondered if you might have had this confirmed by the Holy Spirit.

Sweetest blessings,
~S~
