No, I have never even heard of Remeron, but tell you what, go to www.google.com and look up info on it, if you are unsure of it. In fact, i will do that right now, and get back to you.

Wow, Izzy! Sounds like Remeron is a good thing. The info said that it targets specific areas of your brain for seratonin stimulation, unlike paxil and prozac which seem to target everywhere. And as for side effects, they said that no one has had side effects severe enough to make them stop taking the drug. The most common side effect is drowsiness. You know how rare it is to hear that? It won't cause sexual side effects either, or the nausea and diarreah. This sounds like your dr made a good call. This drug can be used for depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. Good for you, I hope it all works out for the best. I'll be thinking of you the next 5 days, cheers to better living!!! Big Grin

Hi,
I am new to the forum and wanted to respond to you. I have taken remeron for the last 5 years or so and it worked great for me for the time and helped with my sleep since you take it in the evening. I didn't have hardly any side effects. It's not working the same for me now as some of them tend to do and it had been alittle difficult weaning off with some of the withdrawal but I will get there.
Good Luck! It does tend to kick in pretty fast.

Izzy,

I was on Remeron for a year and it worked great for me. It helped me sleep better which was great! I had no side effects from it at all. I understand some have trouble weaning off of it but I didn't have trouble there either. Of the Anti-depressants I've been on, and I've been on a lot of them, Remeron is my favorite followed closely by Effexor-XR. I hope it wors out well for you! Razzer

Izzy,
You didn't have problems tapering off each medication? How long did you taper off when you quit taking the remeron? It's been about 3 weeks for me and now not on anything, but a few withdrawal symptoms or they could be anxiety too!
How did the effexor work for you? I heard that is a hard one to withdrawal off of.

I did like remeron though while on it.

thanks for your response!

TrueBlue,

It was me, Tori, that didn't have trouble going off the Remeron. It took about 2 weeks. I went off faster than I think your supposed to but I don't have insurance and couldn't afford it anymore. With it I just didn't have any problems. The Effexor was a little harder. I stayd really dizzy, lightheaded, and a bit queasy for about 2 or weeks. I tend to not have much trouble going off meds though. Normally, by the time I go off of them they're not working anymore so that may or may not make a difference. Remeron is the only one I went off of that was actually still working.

I hope you don't have too much trouble weaning off of it. Hang in there and take care!

Tori

Hey Izzy!
I was wondering how you were doing on the Remeron? Any side effects? Is it working for both the anxiety and depression? Any info would be appreciated

*bump* I'd like to put this topic back in the limelight as I'm considering this drug for panic/agoraphobia. Anyone have any good experiences with it? There is one warning of a rare side effect where Remeron could lower your white blood cell count. Now that makes me nervous..and I've read of a couple reviews of the drug where that happened. Anyways, would love to hear some feedback on it. Thanks! Big Grin

I was put on remeron to help me sleep. It wa a low dose and I was out of it and groggy for >24 hours. Maybe you can get used to it after a few days. Also, it made me very hungry. Good luck

I was on med 12 yrs, remron was the worst, the lower doses, believe it or not are the higher to make you sleep, weird, but true, I also study this like I was a doctor, was on meds ( 12 yrs ) so long I use to tell my doctor what to put me on next, the night I took remron, I could not get up in the morning to save life, finaly got up and flushed them down the toliet, worst ever, and as for them there trying to get remron off the market now, thought it already happened, guess not, to may people had bad effects. but what works for you might not for someone else.

Just an update here on how the med is working for me. I've been taking about 1/8th of the pill for a bit more than two weeks (I'm sensitive to meds, so I'm raising the dose slowly). It did make me VERY groggy for a couple days, but that has gone away. It also made me hungry for the first two weeks but that has lessened too. So far it's been the best med I've taken. I can't tolerate the SSRI's at ALL. This one has knocked out my general anxiety almost completely, and has kept me from getting those adrenaline rushes I used to dread. I sleep much better, and my blood sugar levels have improved ten-fold (I am hypoglycemic, and the anxiety was making it much worse).I'm hoping as I increase the dosage it will stop my panic attacks too and allow me to be more independant, and to also practice exposure and cognitive therapy with a therapist (The Ross Center for anxiety disorder in DC).

Many thanks for everyone's contribution to this thread. I'll update it again soon.

Paige
