Can any one tell me if Buspar helps with obsessive thinking/negative thoughts. Alot of antidepressants such as Zoloft target that area. I was told that if I calm my anxiety the racing thoughts and negative obessive thinking will stop. Have tried a # of meds and am afraid to start this one without total research on the medication. I just can't afford any more mistakes. Thanks for any input. Christine

Hi Chad - Buspar will not control the negative/obsessional thinking. I know I've tried it. What you should try is Zoloft. I do a low dose of it in conjunction with therapy and this program and its worked out well. You might experience some side effects (I woke up after 4 hours of sleep for a coupl of weeks but I learned not to get upset over it - this is key - and it passed!!). Good luck to you!!

Take care!!

I take Buspar for the anxiety, and it works well for me, but I might add that it does take time for it to start showing. I have taken it now for about 4 years and it helped control mine. I take Zanax as needed for strong anxiety but I have cut that into half. I have not had any side effects with Buspar, and it is fairly inexpensive.
