"Courage does not always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, 'I will try again tomorrow'."

I have been on Zoloft for 6 days now and well I cant stop yawning in the morning to where i think my jaw muscles will lock up and i will stay that way!! (Which of course brings me anxiety) A year ago I took lexapro for two days and stopped because of the same reason. Has anyone else had the constant yawning and will it go away??? My jaw really hurts and it scares me. Thanks and I hope everyone has a great day!

In some people, meds can take a bit of getting used to. I had to start at low doses of zoloft and increase by about 12.5 mg every 2-3 weeks. If I increased my dose too much, I would become very sleepy and lethargic, like a zombie. Zoloft zombie - right. Could you be yawning because you're tired? You might want to talk to your doctor and see if you can drop your dose back a little, get used to it and go from there. Of course any side effect, like the one you're having that makes it hard for you to get through the day or that scares you should be discussed with your doctor, because it could be something else, too. Good luck - hope it works for you. It's worked really well for me.

Excessive yawning is a form of hyperventilation !! You can work on this by doing some breathing exercises and some progressive muscle relaxation.

You may find the above article of some interest!! Smiler

Thanks for the responses. I did find the article very interesting. Thanks sunset34. I just wish I knew it would go away so I could keep taking the meds, but if this will happen all the time then no way! I just cant handle the excessive yawning. Plus after the first 7 days of zoloft (25mg) it goes to 50mgs and i worry if it will be worse then. I think I will call my doctor tomorrow just to see what he thinks about this. Thanks again and I hope you all have a great night!!

I am on Zoloft for about 5 days now and it seems to keep me from sleeping. I am currently taking a benedryl at night to get to sleep but I'm wondering if anyone else has had the insomnia from Zoloft? If so, did it eventually wear off so you could sleep?

I am on Zoloft for the second time in my life because it seems to have the least side effects of any other meds I've been on in the past.
It does cause drowsiness. I take it before bed. If it is interfering with your daily life than talk to your doctor.

I am on Zoloft as well, At the beginning or any change in dosing, it does interfere with sleep, but it does go away, hang in there.

How long did it take for anyone to feel the full effect of Zoloft? I know it varies from person to person and it can take up to 8 weeks, but I was just wondering. I've been taking it for a week now and I'm hanging by a thread.

I got the best results from Zoloft, but had two problems with it. 1) forget sex (i'm a male), it shut me down...other antidep's have been better in this regard 2) my weight used to top out at 217. After taking Zoloft it "reset" to around 240. I have to take some blame for that because of my eating habits, but I know going on antidep's had a lot to do with it. Just do what you have to do to feel better. It takes some time to figure out what works best for 'you'.
