Just went to the dr. today and was prescribed lexapro. Havent taken it yet and I was just wondering if anyone has taken it and how it worked. I am really scared to take it but I know it should make me feel better. Starting out on 10mg to see how it goes. Thanks for any input.

nikki, i don't take lexapro..............but one thing i have found out on this forum, is that asking questions about meds can really freak you out. so many of us do not want to take meds. or are afraid of taking meds. we are all sooooooo different, and all react differently to different meds. we need to keep an open mind about our new med, and take it from there,....sometimes, esp. for ''us'' the power of suggestion can set our minds overanalyzing. i tried zoloft last year, and it was god awful for me. for others it works wonders. i also have been fearful about taking meds, but am also going thru a hurdle,......
a little over a couple weeks i started on effexor. low dose.....only 25 mg., shrink being very conservative with me to start. day one was fine......days 2, 3,4, and 5...... i felt so so wired. thankfully, my shrink also has me taking xanax 0.25 twice a day just for now.......i think that helped me get thru those days i was wired. it wasn't anxiety wired, it was just wired, like being on speed. then on day 6, i mellowed out, and things have been ok. i know it's still early for me.......but i feel a bit better....... all i know, is that i could NO longer feel how i was. pushing myself to function.....depersonalized, etc.
i wish you the best. take it day by day, and try to keep a positive attitude about the med.
take good care!

I am on Lexapro and have found it ok. Also on Wellbutrin. Most meds like these takes some getting use to, about a week or 10 days. They are not like a Xanax that works immediately.
My case was extreme depression and social anxiety disorder. I this taken me a while to get the right doctor and have him find the right combination for me. Something that can be frustrating when they have to try different things until they find the one that works for you.

I am also hopful that working this program will help me deal with my problems myself and won't need medication in the future. But for now it is a great help for me.

very glad to see this discussion. i thought i was the only one who hated anti-depressants because they made me feel wired - everyone else sings their praises!

i think it's good to be wary of meds - especially anti-anxiety - have to resort to them myself and hope and pray this program will help me. maybe it's power of suggestion, but i have only started program this week and already feel better (it's the staying-with-it i need to worry about).

Can someone tell me a little more about Lexapro? Is this simply an antidepressant or something else?

Also, how do we really know which antidepressant is best for us?

I was presecribed Paxil 10 years ago, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. Now my doctor has me on Paxil CR and I'm still having problems. I'm not sure what will work for me.

I look forward to many replies.

My husband takes lexapro with very good results. He use to have a problem standing up for hisself and with confrontation and now he is much improved. Today he spoke to his boss about a raise. Before Lexapro he would have been too anxious to do so.

I don't like to take medications, but at times I've had to to get me through. I've been on Paxil, Paxil CR, Zoloft, Celexa, and a couple others. I always get bad side effects such as headaches, dilated pupils, insominia, shakes, dizziness and gastrointestinal problems. Lexapro was the last med I was prescribed and it worked the best for me. It had the least side effects. It did keep me up at night at first, but after a while that got better. My doctor also prescribed ambien along with it to help with sleeplessness.

You never know until you try. It works a little different for each individual. Praise yourself for having the courage to try something new. Keep listening to the tapes and supporting yourself through it. You are in control.

If anyone wants to know about LEXAPRO, do a search by typing "LEXAPRO" and go to thier official web sight. I've been on LEXAPRO and it works for me. PAXIL didn't work for me. Good luck.

I tried effexor and had dilated pupils and sweat like crazy. I am very sensitive to meds. I tried a half of Lexipro today, my pupils are a bit dilated, does it go away?
