Hi all! I just wanted to alert you to what I believe is a side-effect of Paxil. For a long time now I have experienced night sweats. And I mean I REALLY sweat. The sheets are soaked when I wake up. I don't ever remember having them prior to taking Paxil.

I had the same thing- and many other symptoms. Most of the side effects have gone away now that I am taking lower dose, and getting off it gradually. Getting on it ,and reducing it after 6 months both caused me a few weeks of nausea, the night sweat, and "flushing"- I felt like my arms and shoulders were burning. I think the Paxil helped me when I really needed it, but th eprogram has helped me make those long term changes. Everyone reacts differently to the medications, so ii helps to hear if other people are dealing with the same thing as you. The Drs. info doesn't seem very comprehensive sometimes.

Hi gang! Just wanted to update you. I have transitioned off of Paxil and onto Celexa. I've been on Celexa for a little over a week, and the night sweats have not subsided. Maybe they will after a few more weeks.

Hi, Thankfully I have had no problems with paxil. I have found it to help me a great deal in coping with the anxiety. It doesn't eliminate the anxiety but it does make it easier to cope with. I am also on a very low dosage of 20mgs once a day. I hope that the celexa works better for you. Good luck

Hi Lora and all! Lora: I found that Paxil helps me deal with anxiety only marginally. More specifically, I do better with it than without it. However, in the past is hasn't seemed to help me deal with anxiety on a more than negligible level. BTW, I was on 30mg per day (Paxil) for more than 2 years. I've transitioned to Celexa and will endeavor to continue to update the post I provided under "Paxil causes "night sweats" for me" in the "Lesson 11 High Anxiety and Depression: The Truth About Medication and Alcohol" forum. If you're interested, please look there for further comments. The people there have elucidated some quite helpful information. (Yes...this is how I talk. Oh the pleasures of perfectionism. Correct grammar, word usage, vocabulary, and etymology ARE a welcomed part of my being.)

Have a great day, keep your chin up and your outlook positive!

Can you tell I'm a recovering perfectionist? Considering the three edits (to date) that I've made to my post, this trait is difficult to ignore. LOL.

An update: I have switched over to Celexa, and have been taking it for approx. 7 weeks now, at 40mg. The night sweats are totally gone.

Now 33 years old.

HI ALL. I WAS RELIEVED THAT PAXIL WAS THE TOPIC. THIS MED. ALMOST DROVE ME INSANE I WAS ON IT FOR 14 DAYS AND WAS CONSIDERED "MANIC" BY THE TIME I MADE IT TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. HOSPITALIZED FOR 2 DAYS WHILE COMING OFF. GRANTED EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT REACTIONS TO MEDS, BUT THIS PARTICULAR ONE HAS CHANGED MY LIFE FROM JUST A FEW PANIC ATTACKS TO OCD..I AM FINALLY LEARNING TO CONTROLL THIS WITH NO MEDS., BUT I KNOW I NEED AN ANTI-DEPRESSANT AND I'M SCARED TO DEATH TO TRY ANOTHER MED. ANY THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS OR BETTER MEDS...

LYNNMARIE,

Like you, I had a very bad reaction after taking Paxil for only 4 days, that was 3 years ago. As much as I would like to believe that Paxil screwed my brain up and thats why I continue to have anxiety and body symptoms, the truth is, it is not the Paxil. Trust me, I have researched this topic and the best I could come up with is that Paxil causes some people server withdrawal problems, even after only a few day. There is no long term effect. As long as you hang on to the thought that Paxil did it therefore I need some other drug to correct it, the longer it will be till you recover without meds. As you said, everyone is different but you might want to consider it is you doing it to you which could help in your recovery. This is the point I had to get to.

I hope this helps.

Ron

Thanks Ron. Your absoultley right. I need to get through this with no meds. I am on lorazapam .5 mg now to take the edge off and it has seem to be somewhat of a "tool" while I go through this program. I am now able to control my attacks better. It really helps though to know someone else is out there who had this kind of reaction to something that is suppose to help. I will keep you up-dated because soon I want to be med-free...
