help i need info. does anyone know what the difference is between taking medication and therapy. if there truly is a chemical imbalance in our brain why is it that some people can straighten it out with just talk therapy and others need the meds. if it really is a physical thing wouldnt everyone need the meds.

and can our thinking process change the chemicals in our brains. i wonder, does anyone have any thoughts on this. LC

Yes. Our thinking can change the chemicals in our brain. Did you know that a hug produces a chemical reaction? Imagine getting a hug everytime you felt afraid. You would associate the fear with a hug on the way!

Try your own experiment. Think of something fearful for 30 seconds and see how you feel. THen think of something warm and comforting for 30 seconds and see how you feel. The contrast is sometimes astonishing.

thanks! i will try that. i guess i knew the answer as i have been going in and out of scary depressed moods for two months. i just wish i could get to the happy place and stay put. sometimes i feel like im ok and then i tell myself wait a minute i felt ok for quite a while and then i throw myself back into a mood. how stupid! i have a prescription for elavil and i have taken it before but i want to try to fix this without the meds. maybe talk and thought therapy just takes a little longer. anyway thank you for your input and for listening.
