I've had anxiety all of my life..ever since i can remember..it wasn't until i got mono at age 16 and then never really recovered from it..that the problems started..i was suffering from chronic fatigue (more specifically adrenal fatgiue) when your adrenal glands aren't functioning as they should, I developped multipl chemicle sensitivities, fibromyalgia, Irritable bowel and interstitial cystitis (IC)..basically all thse conditions are related to eachother..indicating I have a toxic body..and many hornomal imbalaces, vitamin and mineral diffiences that are causing all fo these problems. For years docs had fed me so many psych meds for my anxiety and depression..and after doing much reseach on my own I now know that I have many very physical reasons for expereincing the anxiety and mood problems..I got off of 2 meds they ahd me on for years and not only did it not hurt my moods but it made them better..this program is helping and I want to get off of the last 2 psych meds I'm on..doesn anyone have any tips..any thoughts to share..its frusterating when your doc wont listen to you when you know you dont need thse anymore..i've on them fro years and they have never helped me once....

Not to knock doctors... they can be excellent and well-informed resources... but you know, in the end it's your choice, not theirs. If you truly fool ready to be off a certain medication, then, well, just don't take it. See what happens.

Of course, if you have a history of depression so severe that it has led to self-harm, you might want to rely more heavily on the judgement of others in such things... but other than that, I'd say, the doctors work for you - not the other way around.

Tongue In Cheek Disclaimer: In this world where everyone sues everyone else, I better mention that I'm not a doctor, never have been a doctor, and nothing I say should be taken as medical advice. In fact, nothing I say should be taken as advice at all. I don't know what I'm talking about, should be ignored whenever I open my mouth. If you do take the what I say seriously, it's your own darn fault... so don't come complaining if it turns out wrong. Wink Big Grin

I believe in working with your dr. I know it's ultimately my choice, but I do feel they know more than me. My dr is very receptive when I say I want to go off of a medication and has offered to work with me to do that. If you don't trust your dr to help you, I'd suggest finding a new one. You should be at peace when your dr gives you advice. Sometimes it's dangerous to go off of meds cold turkey, so keep that in mind.

Good luck,

I'm glad you've had such a positive relationship with your doctor, Annie. My own opinions on it definitely reflect my own limited experience. For most of my life I've either been uninsured, or poorly insured, and have rarely had a chance to interact with the higher quality of professional that certainly does exist.

As a whole, I've learned to remember that doctors are only human, and don't always know quite as much as they'd like one to think they do. Sometimes, like all of us, things they do in all sincerity are plain wrong. Other times they are tired, or misinformed, or have their own agendas in promoting a certain medication and its use.

It's one of the reasons I have a whole heap of respect for good, old-fashioned common sense. Smiler
