I am so stressed out about the flu and germ problems that I think I am starting to get upset with my son.. He is 7 and hates to sleep I will put him in bed at 8 and he will still be awake at 10----...

He tells me something hurts him or he dosen't feel well..Last night he told me his stomach hurt and I tried to explain to him that there is a bad cold going around and that he can not lie to me about not feeling well..I didn't want to go into the don't cry wolf story..

Any suggestions???

Hi,

Do you have a set evening routine? Is there one on one time that you two can share about your day and he has your undivided attention? Does he need a snack (preferably protein, not sugar)? What time does he get up in the am? My kids sleep in, we homeschool so dont have to be up early, so they tend to be awake later too. They just arent tired early. My kids dont really like to be away from us at night either. He probably feels lonely. Believe me, you can get a tummy ache without having a flu or virus. Try not to make a big deal out of that kind of thing but enough attention so he knows you care. I make it a point to believe my kdis when they tell me something. Kids may fake stuff here and there but I try to trust my kids and I tell them to trust themselves as well. Raising kids is one of the hardest jobs there is, but the most rewarding too. Give him a hug and tell him you are sorry he isnt feeling well and that he will feel better later. Kids get stress too. Just reassure him he will be ok.

I can definitely relate to you. My daughter will not sleep either. She behaves very well and is very sweet, but she won't go to sleep. She doesn't require much. She can lay in bed forever and never seems to get tired. She is five. As for the flu, I give my daughter vitamin c with echinacea before she gets around kids and afterwards. The guys on the local news station said that would strengthen their immune system. I am having a problem with irritability toward my daughter. I posted my problem in anger and mood swings. Please check it out if you have time. I really need help.

I don't know if you've checked out the Midwest Center Online store yet. On there you will find all the the different products that are available. There is a cassette tape called,The Sensitive Child. My husband just listened to this with me the other night. We have a 10 year old boy. It is an excellent cassette tape on different things our children might be experiencing. I am so thankful for that tape it has helped us so much to understand our precious little boy.
