Does anyone know how to come off of birth control pills? I am trying to step off of my anxiety meds, with the dr.s help but I would like to come off my birth control pills as well, but I don't currently have an OB/GYN to help me. Anyone else ever try to get off those?

I have come off birth control pills twice. Each time, I just quit taking them. My OB'GYN did not advise me any differently. The only side effect I experienced, which really wasn't a side effect for me, just returning to normal, was my periods were heavier and lasted longer and were kind of irregular for a while. I also had cramps again which I had gone without while on birth control. So, in my experience, it is one medication you don't have to taper off.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I thought you may have to stop taking them all at once, since there really doesn't seem to be a dose on them. Just wondered if anyone else had done this.

Hey Disneygirl,

There really are no side effects from coming off the pill. Like what the other person said, usually your periods are heavier and may be out of whack for a bit. You could always call like a planned parenthood or women's health clinic and ask them for advice.

I am also getting off BCP and did have a consult with my OBGYN. You can quit "cold turkey", but need to finish your pack. This week is my first without BCP so as far as regularity and if my periods will be heavier I don't know. I have been on BCP for 20 years so it will be interesting if my body remembers how to function. HAHA

i got off my BCP 3 months ago. I finished the packet and than after my period stopped. The first month off it was fine but the last 2 months my hormones are all wacky. . Maybe its my body adjusting to no more chemicals regulating my hormones. . ? I now take herbal supplements for my hormonal imbalance. Oh, my period on the pill was on the 17th and now after the pill its on the 4th. . usually when you get off your periods are heavier and get cramps. I notice i start getting pms 2 weeks before my period )-: instead of a few days before. . it all depends on your body. good luck getting off them. . They are not good for your body anyway
