My son is 15 months old. Since he was a couple weeks old he has been sleeping through the night. He's pretty much always gone to bed around 7:30pm and wakes up at 7:30am. He takes a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. When he is tired he pulls a pillow off the couch, lays down and sucks his thumb, then I put him to bed. Lately he doesn't seem tired at night. He's been staying up past 10:00pm, often even later. I feel bad putting him in his crib when it's clear that he's not tired. People have told me to stop letting him nap during the day, but he's just a baby, doesn't he need the nap. How would I stop him anyway? He curls up on the floor and falls asleep. I tried waking him up an hour earlier in the morning but it hasn't made a differance. Any advice?

I have a 15 month old as well - I find that any change in routine - even one day of missing an afternoon nap will throw off his schedule at night. There may be many reasons why he won't sleep at night - teething, gassy, change in daily routine, something new around your house - with the holidays perhaps you've been busy.

Giselle,

Naps are great for kids !! However, if you allow him to nap too late in the day or for too long it can really change his night time habits. My kids were always great sleepers. As they got older I found out that napping past 2pm isn't good for their bedtime pattern. My kids got up earlier and had naps earlier in the day and that fixed the problem. It could be that he needs more stimulation during the day.
15 months old is the age where they need LOTS of activity. Taking them to the park to run and meet other kids is great and even if the weather doesn't permit this...you can still take him the local library because they always have things for the little ones to do there ( games, puzzles, books, toys) and it also gives them a chance to meet other kids.

I remember back when my children were that small and the weather was bad and we had no money..... I would take my kids to McDonald's and buy them an ice cream cone and then let them play indoors in their indoor play room.

No matter what your situation is or where you are or who you are with...there is always something you can do to make life fun for you and your son.

Enjoy your Christmas !!

Is he eating or drinking anything different? Is he on any cold meds or anthing new? Maybe caffeine or sugar is getting slipped in somewhere or a cold med can really hyper up a child. It does me! HOpe you can get him back on schedule soon.
