gosh thats scarey i knew one died in Colorado, but 11? where were they from? My sons and I have been sick on and off for a month. I did take my son in after two days of an almost 102 degree fever tiredness sore throat ect. I know they said that one boy from Colorado didnt have many symptoms. It is real scarey. I think we have to just make sure we call or go to the doctor if we think our kids or ourselves might have it. And try to tell ourself positive thoughts when the negative scarey thoughts come in. Otherwise I just pray, it helps me. Smiler Lori

I think most or all of the kids that died were in Colorado. Here we've had half of the kids out of one of the local schools one day. Most of the kids have gotten the flu, both of mine included, but no one has died.

It is right to be concerned, but it is useless to worry. Do what you can do, pray, and move on. Don't panic over things out of your control. You can't be defeated without defeating yourself.

Grace & peace

One thing they dont tell us is the health conditions of the people before they even got sick. I wonder about the vaccine and how safe that is too. There is no win/win situation here.

Those children died from the influenza....which is the one that is in the chest. They get over the flu and end up with pneumonia, which goes untreated. If your child gets the influenza and isn't recovered within a week she needs to be seen by a doctor.

I have the same worries and I TOTALLY freaked out about this too....until I read about it on the 'net. Don't worry, it is all going to be fine. Remember to breathe!

From the Center for Disease Control, 35 million to 50 million people get the flu each year. The projections this year are for 36,000 to 70,000 to die from it. Worst case that's a .2 percent ratio. Turn it around, 99.8 percent who get the flu will not die. I like those odds. Is it possible to die from the flue? Yes. Is it likely or probable? No. Our negative, obsessive minds think WORST CASE SCENARIO and don't take facts into account in many situations. This is part of our illness, our disorder. It is part of having panic and anxiety and CATASTROPHIZING or thinking the worst is one of the TEN COGNITIVE DISTORTIONS WHICH MAKE US SICK, "Feeling Good, the New Mood Therapy", by Dr. David Burns. I have come down with flu like symptoms also in the last 72 hours, I am 54 years old, but I don't have panic or excessive anxiety and am thinking about 72 hours from now when I will be rebounding and getting back to health. I wish I could bet on my odds of getting over this. I could retire. I'll take 99.8% odds any day. I know with excessive anxiety this is sooooo hard to do. Been there, done that. Love and accept yourself unconditionally in your panic, in your worry, in your pain. Don't beat yourself up, don't self criticize yourself. Be compassionate, loving, soothing to yourself.

Yes, I obsess over sickness to sometimes. My daughter got sick about a wk. ago and I was told just to wait until Mon. to take her in. I thought she was doing better on Sun. but then her fever shot up so I took her to ER. I felt really dumb doing that like I was over obsessing, but I am glad I took her in because her fever shot up again while we were there to 103 and that really scared me! Thank god she did not have the flu. But, she did have a very bad ear infection which she hardly ever gets.I thought she was never going to get better, but I kept praying. Finally after several days her fever broke. Yeah! Now she is back to her old happy self. I was so worried that whole time but God got me through it. Without him and the program I probably would have started having panic attacks again.By the way reading all of everybodys messages help in times of need. It's nice to have people care about you who are going through the same things. God bless to everyone! It really means a lot to me you are so caring!
