Hi there,

I've been dealing with anxiety for quite a while now, and one area that I have a lot of trouble with is loss of appetite. Does anyone have any suggestions about this? I know I need to eat, and even feel hungry, but when I start to try and eat something I just start to feel sick to my stomach and lose my appetite. Is there anyone else with similar experiences who may be able to offer some suggestions? Much appreciated! Smiler

hi bookworm,

Yes, I just lost about 15 pounds because of extreme anxiety. But your body needs the nutrition so you can function optimally. It will help your mind as well.

Try eating small meals, nothing heavy or greasy. I ate cottage cheese with pineapple, organic vegetable pocket sandwiches, applesauce, grapes, grilled cheese. All pretty light. Start small and light and don't force yourself to eat a huge meal. Small meals throught the day will help you.

I hope this helps...you're not alone. Good luck.

Thank you for your suggestions! I do find that fruit is something that I can nearly always stomach. I tend to try and force myself to eat too much when I feel I don't want to; my boyfriend tells me I don't eat enough and then I feel like I need to try and match his appetite, which is impossible even when I am having a good day! He's working on understanding and being supportive, though Razzer. Thanks again!

I had a problem with loss of appetite when I was on wellbutrin, lost 25 pounds and it seemed like nothing was appealing to me! Just curious are you on any meds? Also I drink alot of Ensure or Boost Shakes whichever once is on sale lol, and that has helped alot for me and others in this forum.

I also drink the ensure plus or boost plus. Try to eat soup, bananas, turkey sandwiches, cheese, cottage cheese, fruit, whole grain bagels, peanut butter and jelly, oatmeal, drink milk, eggs. My appetite comes and goes. I find that it is my lack of motivation to cook that makes me not want to eat, so I try eating things that are easy to make. Make sure you at least take a muli-vitamin if you are not eating. Good luck!

HI BOOKWORM, I DROPPED FIFTEEN POUNDS DURING A BAD PERIOD PRIOR TO EVER GOING THROUGH THE PROGRAM DUE TO SEVERE ANXIETY. I CAN TELL YOU THAT FOR ME COUNSELING AND MEDICATION HELPED BUT WHAT HELPED THE MOST WAS TAKING MY MEALS WITH SOMEONE I FELT CLOSE TO AND WHO SUPPORTED ME. IT WAS FOR ME LIKE A SAFE OASIS WHERE I COULD LET GO OF THE ANXIETY FOR JUST A LITTLE WHILE AND MY APPETITE JUST CAME BACK GRADUALLY, THEN WITH A VENGENCE. I READ SOME OF THE OTHER REPLIES AND AGREE THAT SMALL NON-GREASY MEALS ARE MUCH BETTER - SIP ON A PEANUT BUTTER MILK SHAKE - YOU NEED TO GET SOME SORT OF NUTRITION IN YOU SO ANYTHING YOU CAN TOLERATE IS GOOD.

TAKE CARE - WE'RE ALL IN THIS TO HELP EACH OTHER THROUGH TO BETTER TIMES!
