In lesson 10 there is a page of obsessive thought replacement dialogue and I was wondering if this is to be read as script when you find youfself in the obsessive cycle and to read the entire page, or is it to be treated like self talk replacement and only a few lines are to be read pertaining to whatever thought one might have? Thank you!

I have used statements that pertain to the situation. I found that to be very effective for me.
I used to get thoughts about driving and losing control of the car. I told myself that I was OK, I am a great driver, I have not had an accident in over 17 years, I AM in control of my vehicle and it will NOT veer out of control, I am a very safe, consciencous driver, I have driven many miles safely...That calmed me enough to drive. I became more confident in my driving and self talk, I saw that I could do it, so I started to beleive all my thought replacement statements. It will take time, but you will beleive the replacement thoughts. Let us know how it goes! Take care! LizB "Afterall, everybody only hears what he understands." by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe |

Dear Shak-
Choose 3-5 that most closely relate to your negative thoughts. One hint that really helped me was to remember to speak in terms of solution NOT in terms of the problem. For example: I would not speak of crashing my car or getting lost. I would frame my positives around my good driving skills, my ability to ask for directions...etc. Make sense? It takes a lot of practice to speak in the most positive way possible...took me months...but I can do it! If I can you can. Carolyn |
