I wanted to ask if anyone else has a change in anxiety symptoms from taking antidepressents. I have taken Zoloft, Paxil, and Lexapro and all have made me feel the same way. I feel fine when I am not anxious, but as soon as I feel anxious my symptoms change, or ar emore pronounced. I have your typical anxiety symptoms. Tingling sensations in arms, legs, and face. Feeling of uneasiness, muscle spasms and tension, etc.... After I start taking the antidepressent , the symptoms feel different. I can also feel a tingling sensation in my teeth (only when anxious) That's how I know it just effects my symptoms. Aside from lower lebeto, and trouble sleeping some nights. When I am not anxious I feel fine. I want to take the antidepressant's because so many people say they help with their anxiety, but I can't handle the feeling I have when I take them. I don't have extreme negative thoughts about hurting myself or anything, I mainly want to take them for the anxiety and resultant depression because of the anxiety. I also am weening myself off of xanax. Any comments are very appreciated. On Day 5 of Session 1 and I am feeling good about my future.
Thanks everyone, Tony |

Hi Tony,
I was tried on 4-5 antidepressants and I got worse panic and symptoms on them. Even felt suicidal. So, I only can take very low dose Ativan to help with anxiety symptoms but am feeling less physical symptoms since beginning this program.Good luck to you. Keep us posted on how you are doing. |

What type of antidepressent is Ativan? The only antidepressents I have ever taken have been SSRI's . And they all have the same effect on me. I am open to taking other antidepressants if it will help. How exactly is the antidepressant working for anxiety? Or I can just continue without taking any medication and just use the program to recover. Tony |

Hello- I have started to take one called Celexa...I love it. It is very very mild I only take 20 mg and it has never made me feel weird in any way. I have heard weird things about others so maybe try Celexa. Also, I do have Xanax for emergency's. My therapist says to try not to take it if I dont have to because it is very addicting. I am just starting the tapes, so I am hoping to not be on anything pretty soon.
Good Luck. |

I know medications can make you feel worse (lexapro made me so tired I slept almost all day, every day), but don't stop taking anything without your doctor's ok and supervision, especially if you are NOT suicidal or thinking of harming yourself or others. If these symptoms show up, you should go to the emergency room immediately, and there are also a number of hotlines you can call, like Hopeline.

Hi Tony,
Ativan is not an antidepressent. Ativan is like a mild valium. I used it when I had anxiety attacks to help with the symptoms. I am now on Klonapin which is basically the same thing, it just lasts longer. Chief 133 |
