I would love to talk to others who have issues with depression and sleeping to much. It seems much more common to have insomnia, but this issue is really causing a negative effect on my life and it would be great to talk to people struggling with this also

I am not currently having over sleeping problems but it has been one of my biggest problems during times of severe anxiety and depression. I think I would sleep so much because the only time I felt at peace was in my sleep. Nothing could bother me, and my mind couldn't take me away if I was sleeping. The more anxious I got the more I wanted and did sleep. I was so bad for a few weeks I would find ways to sleep at work. So your not alone. With medication and now the help of this program I have over come my problem. Now I have trouble sleeping to much. My body wakes itself up after a few hours of sleep.

Thanks so much for replying! Maybe we could plan to talk some time on the live chat? Are you ever on there?

Well, i just sleep and make myself sleep to don't feel anything so you are not alone. I just got the program and I am in my first week, but I am sure we are going to laugh about this in a couple of months!!!

Thanks to everyone who responded. It is good to know that I am not alone. I think that I was in denial about why I was oversleeping, but after hearing your comments I think I am experiencing the same thing. I feel so good when I am sleeping and so it makes me want to do it as much as possible. I know I shouldn't, but it is like I'm addicted! Have you all found anything that helps....obviously I'm hoping that going through the program will.

I seen this topic and was wondering if any of you out there found anything that helped you. I too sleep way to much. I guess it's just a side effect of having the depression.
I'm not always like this but it happens alot(sleeping to much). I think also the negative self talk might make it worse. I may have just answered my own question...not sure Confused
Anyway..I know this is a very old thread. I just wondered if anyone else felt the same or made progress with this.

Karen,
I was on a combination of lamictal and lexapro. My doctor and I finally decided to take me off lexapro and put me on zoloft. It has made a HUGE difference. I'm not sure if the lexapro was making me sleepy or if the zoloft just helped my depression. I found that just accepting that I am sleeping that much was easier on me than beating myself up about not getting up on time. I was fortunate enough to be able to adjust my work schedule to help with this. I feel your frustration!

Aholland,
Thank-you for your reply. you know I take lamictal. I might ask my doctor about it(making me sleepy). That's good you have a flexible work schedule. I am a stay at home mom and when the kids are at school..I notice it more. I agee with you about not beating yourself up over it. Lifes to short to worry about something that is really not such a big deal.
I know "we" blow things up and make things worse than they really are.
I know Lucinda says to ask yourself 'is it really that serious' if not then stop obsessing over it...Life's to short! were not promised tommorow...live for the now!
Take-care and thanks again Smiler
