My Mom is going in today for her hip. She found out that she has tendonitis in her right ankle and her left hip has been giving her trouble for a while. Why is it that I can't be supportive and just go with her? I feel like such a failure as a daughter and have told her so. I told her I wish she could have a different daughter who didn't have to go through this stuff. She is totally supportive of me with this disorder and I am so tired of it. I just want to give up. Yes, I'm on the program and I'm only on lesson 5. Does it ever get better? I just don't know what to do anymore. I'm so tired of living like this.

Amy,
I'm sure your mother understand why you can't be with her during this difficult time. Don't beat yourself up over it and feel guilty. You're going through a very difficult period and it's okay that you're not there this time. The program does get better, but I think you should re-visit Lesson 3 & 4. Use positive self-talk and work on lowering your expectations of yourself and others. Write a list of goals. You would like to be there for your mother... What is preventing you? Are you afraid you might panic while being there? Well you have skills now that can help you with that. Your mother doesn't have any life-threatening illnesses (thank goodness), and she will be at a hospital with many great doctors looking to only help her. Maybe this is a good time to face your fears, but by all means, DO NOT feel forced into it if you're not ready... Lots of luck to you and mom, Shiksa |
