My husband has a great deal of anxiety over his desire to quit smoking and his difficulties with this.

This might not be what you're talking about, but I have major anxiety, and I now smoke... in fact, my psychiatrist, therapist, and general doctor have all told me not to quit smoking until I first have a handle on the anxiety... that is, I need to work on the anxiety as the first priority, and make quitting smoking a second priority. Yes we all agree that quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health, if I do that first without having learned the techniques for coping with anxiety, specifically making the compassionate self dialog a habit, and do that first, I'll just go right back to smoking with my first panic attack.
Anyway, this program may help your husband if he does have an anxiety disoder. If not, the program can help anyone in their lives, but most people might not like it since it is targeted to those with an anxiety disorder. |

Do a search for a product called Sulfonil. This is supposed to be good for quiting smoking.
I quit smoking cold turkey almost 7 years ago. It was the hardest thing I probably even went through. Be patient with your husband! It may also be a good idea to taper of the cigarettes slowly. Perhaps every week, smoking a little less on the cigarette each time. When my aunt quit smoking, she got a jar and filled it half way with water, everytime she smoked a cigarette, she would put her cigarette in the jar. Well, needless to say, the smell of wet cigarette butts made her sick and she used this everytime in the future when she quit smoking. She would get the urge for a cigarette and then open the jar and take a deep breath. It worked for her. For me, well I cried and didn't sleep for 3 days due to insomnia. I thought I was going to lose my mind due to no sleep. But it never happened. It just takes time and he has to do it the best way for him.l I wish him all the luck. |
