Just had a baby boy i month ago and was fearful prior that my anxiety would return full force. Recently i find myself crying and fearful that i will or can be unable to care for my son. i hear these stories of mothers hurting their children. recently my baby has been crying a lot and may be a bit colic. my fear is that i will harm him even though i dont think i will just that the crying can be very demanding. anyways was wondering if any other moms felt the same way so it can ease mt mind a bit.

Congratulations on the new baby weezie! My kids are 4 and 2, but I had the same thoughts when they were first born, but that is all they are is thoughts and you would never act on them. You are probably tired and overwhelmed right now and that is normal for any new mom, anxiety or not! Hang in there, it gets better and you will see how wonderful and rewarding motherhood can be! Don't forget to take some "me" time once in a while and keep doing the realxation and you will be great!

Oh, this would be a great forum. My son is 14 now, but I had really bad post-partum depression for a year. I think it lead me into anxiety from that point on because I never had any trouble before.

Thank you soooo much it makes me feel better. I was so worried and with all the news you hear about mothers hurting their children lately it just triggered this fear inside. I mean i know i will always have anxiety but at times it can be tricky to control especially when your guard is down from lack of sleep. If anyone else would like to contribute I would love to hear others stories or worries. Thanks again guys.

My children are 6 and 4 now. I think that the first year is by far the hardest with children. The lack of sleep and hormone fluctuations are enough to drive anyone mad. I agree with cgirl regarding taking care of yourself. If mom is not happy, no one is happy. It also helps to have a good support system with other mom's to whom you can vent. I am not sure if you are staying at home or not, but there are some great support groups for new moms.
Also, the crying is perfectly normal. I would let it all out. It is just the baby blues and it will go away in a few weeks. Take care. Nikki |
