I wrote the origninal message below, hoping to find someone to help me navigate this web site. First, I wrote a private message to Don 57, but he went off line before I sent my message below. I am new the program & very slow & dim-witted with computers, even though I am otherwise intelligent. I am am unsure even how I got to this "Suggest a Forum" site.
Could someone respond to my messages? I would really appreciate any help I can get? Thank you?

Hi, Don!
I am 58, close in age to you! I have problems with computers and have never participated in chat rooms. I am "technophobic" I retired a year ago after 25 years as a federal agent. I have a new job where computers are critical & I am failing. I got stressed out when I tried to post a general message and could not figure out how to do it. I presume that I am posting a private message to you only, but will it show up as a general message for everyone who is currently on line to see? I considered messaging other men like Mike 1968 & PhillyGuy who are on line now and I hope they can view my message & perhaps begin a dialogue about computer fear. I am married with 3 sons and tried to find a person most similar in age & gender to myself who might have similar concerns. Your messages & PhillyGuy's seem to indicate techinal expertise. Perhaps someone can read my message & respond to me directly, wheter they are on line now or not?? I just began the program & it has not been productive for me so far! I have read some of the current messages & wish I had some constructive suggestions, but right now I am having trouble helping myself, no less anyone else. I have been able to help others in the past & hope to do so in the future. I hope you or someone else will respond, if only about how to communicate! Thank you.

From the PM I sent to you, Jeff:

quote:
Hi Jeff, and welcome to the forum. The message you sent me is a private message [pm] and can only be viewed by you and me. My wife also has a fear of computers.

I started with computers in 1983, so it's something I'm fairly comfortable with. When posting on the forum, just go to the topic [thread] you want to post to, be sure you are signed in [you have entered your user name and password] and then at the bottom of the last post on the right there is a box that says [Reply]. Just click that and a box will pop up allowing you to post to that thread. Once you have typed your message, just click the [Post Now] at the bottom of the box and it will be added to the thread. If you have other questions, feel free to ask! Again, welcome!

If you are at the Midwest Center main page, before getting to the forum, move your mouse under (Community) at the top of the page, there a drop down menu will display "Online Forum" as well as other choices. Click that choice and it will take you to the forum. Once you are at the forum, there are choices of "Go", "New", "Find", etc. you will see. Click on "Find" and then select "Today's Active Topics" or "New Since Your Last Visit" to see what has been posted today or since your last visit. Assuming you clicked on "Today's Active Topics", you will see a listing of posts for today. Click on any topic [on the far left] to go to that thread and the posts to that thread. If you want to post a message to the thread, just follow the instructions at the top of this post. That should help get you started. Just experiment clicking on things to get a feel for what happens. There is a <-- Back button at the top of your browser which will take you back to previous screens if you want to go back to a previous screen.
