Has anyone tried natural sleep remedies? I have bought a few but am nervouse to try most of them. I have been taking passion flower. It helps a little. I just took a valerian root pill. The problem is I cant sleep because of anxiety and If I try something new I get anxious about it. I have been trying positive affermations like, "Im a great sleeper". I just have to work through my anxiousness when I lay down. I know it will get better eventually. I have hope!

Dear gina d,
I took some remedies natural for insomnia before like valernian root. I understand where you are coming from. I suffer from anxiety also. I realized so recently on a trip when hail hit the car. I had anxiety hit my chest and fear. Well, to tell you what helped me with sleep - it is essential oils. I sell them but never talk about it or push them. But it is the only thing that helps me. I put them on my belly, feet, head , etc. The are stronger quality than the ones at the health food store. I especially think lavender helps me, lemongrass,.Drop me a line back, if you can. Would enjoy hearing from you. Am new at this. Just started course. As I have anxiety, worry, and lower back pain. Only, these stronger oils help me sleep and some neutralizer also helps my muscle pain. My e-mail is suesuesueio@yahoo.com. Have not any e-mail friends, mostly friends from church, and town. Only been here a few years.Give me a holler..

Herbal meds are great. The anxiety is all in your head and if you dont go ahead and take it your gonna get more tired and miserable. I suggest cammomile tea (i dunno bout the spelling) it really helps you relax and it might make you feel "strange" but just keep it in your mind that you need to relax and know that as long as you aren't allergic, nothing's gonna happen!

gina,

You could be keeping yourself away by worrying about not sleeping. I used to sabotage my own sleep by obsessing about sleeping.

I encourage you to tell yourself that it doesn't matter if you sleep or not. Tell yourself it's no big deal. Repeat this to yourself over and over again and see what happens.

As for herbs, I am not sure what's "best". I have tried passion flower but it gave me headaches. I would recommend amino acids such as GABA supplement and L-theanine. They both definately work and also make you feel better!

Dear gina d
I like Clestial Seasonings "Sleepytime tea"
Qote;If I try something new I get anxious about it.
I do too. that is why I like to use things that are already mixedk Sleepyime, has Chamomile, spearmint, lemong grass tilia flowers, blacberry leaves, orange blossoms, hawthoun berries and rosebuds. mixed and measured, I don't have to guess how much, or anything.
I also like Proloftin it is a Stress Relief Formula,it is acualy non-drowsy, but it relaxes my mind, it shuts off that tape that plays all night long, I call it my shoulda tape. It is mostly Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphatidyl serine L-Theanine and other herbs, I say it on the TV show knowthecause.com you can get it at www.proloftin.com. Also those Good days vitamins the program recomends works well for my daughter, and my son. God Bless you

I too take passion flower. It seems to do the trick, but a suggestion is to go to the library and research. I did the same because even thought the recommendation to take passion flower came from a very reliable source (my uncle who is a doctor) because of the anxiety I still was unsure. So I researched it and found that it was safe. But I still was nervous taking it, but it does work. I hope that helps.

My husbands cusin, he has a Dr. in naturopath, reminded me, of a kenetic trick to tell if something is good for you. It takes practice, so you need to practice with things you know are good for you and things you know are not good for you.,untill you can tell what your body is telling you. hold your thumb and little finger together tip to tip. place your had on the thing you are testing, then with your other had use your pointer to hook in the space between your had and the joind finger tips, and pull them appart. depending on the effort it takes to pull them appart, is weather or not the substance is good for you. Each of us is diffrent, but white sugar isn't good for any one, and most of us need apples, things like that it won't take long and you will be an expert on talking to your body, kineticly. God Bless ya

Thankyou everyone for replying. I slept last night!! I took i passionflower pill and 1 5-htp (50mg). When I put my head on the pillow I tried to think of one thing. It was an image of the blessed mothers face. I then just repeated the hail mary over and over but I dont think I got very far. I woke up at 4:00am and was very happy. I got up went to the bathroom and came back to bed and again fell asleep for another couple hrs. I also found an interesting web site www.nlp-now.co.uk/insomnia.htm. They talk about this way of replacing negative thoughts called SWISH. Im finding it helpful because it has you think of the negetive image in your head (like it is on a TV screen and in the corner real small see the image you want to replace it with. Then swap the images (takes about 5 seconds while imagining a swish noise. Then imagine a calming color or something totaly unrelated. I know it sounds complicated but it really helps me. Sorry this is so long but thanks for everyones help. Gina
