I'm not sure if I have IBS, I think I'm okay. After I changed my diet as per Lesson 5 and going to a nutritionist, I have been getting excess gas and I'm not sure how to stop it. The gas gets so bad and is concentrated in my chest area, that I think sometimes I'm going to have a heart attack. The pain sometimes goes into my throat and into my arm/shoulder. Has anyone else had this? I tend to get it more at night and it affects my sleep (sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with stomach cramps and chest pains). I take baking soda and/or Phazyme (gas relief pills). Any other suggestions?
ive had the same problem for years. For me though its been quite a bit worse with my esphoguos and my stomache ive been on nexium for a long time it works well got to give it a little time to kick in though .try not to lay down to early after a meal and chew your food thoroughly, thats all igot shiska good luck

I am a gastrointestinal nurse and I would suggest ruling out any heart problems first. Have you done so yet with your primary care doctor? If it is not cardiac, you may want to get a GI workup such as an upper GI x-ray or a scope. But, it could be that you get spasms in your esophagus that feels like chest pain. The pain could be radiating to your arm and shoulder. An anti-spasmotic may help this. But, first you should rule out any heart problems. AND, of course stress itself can manifest itself in such symptoms. Also, it may not be gas but the pain of spasms. But, if gas, excess swallowing of air when you eat/drink can cause gas along with carbonated drinks. But, check with your doctor.

Neo calm is right, get a cardiac DR. to rule that out. I had horrible burps, pain near my heart that made me extrmemly uncomfortable. I was checked by a cardiac specialist, then a GI doctor and eventually was put on Nexium and Prilosec (one of the meds did not work, do not remember which)and started to modify my diet. My burps and acid reflux was no longer an issue, I got off the acid meds several months later.
My moms friend had pains in her chest and went to the ER. It was GAS!!!
So not everything is bad news. I would rather get the news of acid reflux or gas than heart issues. It never hurts to get it checked out.

I just diagnosed with ibs 2 weeks ago. Doc put me on bentyl. It sucks. So I stopped. I have anxiety and take buspar and valium. I have seen a cardiologist and everything is fine. I had a heart ultrasound, ekg, stress test, halter monitor, urine something and im only 30. Ihave acid reflux. I had an upper gi done. But these past two weeks have been horrible what do i i do now.
I get the worst gas pressure in my chest and it can lead to a panic attack in a heartbeat ( no pun intended ). I take a product called Gaviscon, I swear by it. And yes, I know it contains aluminum but it works.
I've had this problem recently. i eat lots of broccoli and cauliflower and salads. I'm not afraid of being sick, but do not want to stop eating veggies. Someone told me beano works. Anybody ever try that?

Hi! I'm 36 now, but when I was about 23 or 24, I started having "flutters" and a lot of lightheadedness, etc. I had an EKG done at my doctors and nothing..and I would tell her when I felt one and nothing would register. She sent me to a cardiologist who hooked me up on a monitor for 24 or 48 hrs or whatever (which SUCKED because I couldn't shower!LOL) and everytime I thought I felt something, I had to write down what and what time and then turned it all in.
The monitor showed nothing. What it WAS was that my bad allergies were causing my sinuses in my forehead to get swollen, causing the vertigo and lightheadedness and my asthma inhaler was causing me to have panic attacks, which was causing me to breathe badly, collect gas and it was putting pressure in my "innerds" which caused the flutters which caused me to start digging my grave.
Once they took me off the inhaler (my asthma was very minor at the time), got me on some pepcid and some antihistamine, I was MUCH better!
Later in life I developed the IBS and while they say take a lot of fibre, etc., it causes me, too, to get bloated and constipated and not feel all that well. My doctor told me once I was actually ODing on veggies!LOL I think it's a fine balance. I try to stick with light meals, nothing TOO extreme (not too cheesy, too veggie, too bready), stay away from highly acidic fruits and veggies, try not too eat too much salad (lettuce is a killer!!) and if all I can eat some days is eggs or toast, so be it! It's a good time to get to know your body!
I like Papia; you can get it in Wall Mart and GNC I like the GNC better as it works faster for me. Papai is a chewable, and tastes good, I use Papia to amrinate tough meat, it helps digest all that good food, you just ate. and with less gass, or Acid Reflux.
My cusin, is a N.D. Doctor of Natuopath, and he says we all have built up crust in our bowels that narows the flow of nutrition, in to our blod streems, when I was younger my motabolisim worked and I could eat anything and it would fule my body, but when I ate junk, it would tend to constipate me, and that is when the gunk starts to build up. to clean the pipes so to speak we nee Enzimes, he likes Vialzime. and it is helping me. It takes a while to clean it out and you have to take Magnezioum Citrate with it, or it will plug you up. Just think about all that old stuff coming down with the new, it overloads the system. So it will stink when it is pluged up. That is why changing your diet to veggies and fruit, can smell bad it is claning out and it will take a while depending how gunked up you are. the Vitalzime can help to get it cleaned out faster.
