I was just wondering if anybody else has alot of lower abdominal pain when they have IBS. I seem to suffer with this everytime I have IBS. That is my biggest problem with me having IBS. If I could find out a way to control the pain that I have my IBS would not be so bad. I seem to get IBS everytime something stressful happens to me. If anybody has any suggestion it would greatly by appreciated.
Yes, when I have a severe IBS attack I get terrible lower GI pain that feels like a knife in my gut, usually right before I have a diarrhea attack. I believe it's gas pains because when I have one of these attacks I usually have a hard time having a bowel movement at first and then it all comes out at once as diarrhea. Sorry to be so graphic but this is pretty common with irritable bowel syndrome and I've had those pains all my life.
If I'm having those terrible pains I've found that walking around helps (try not to lay down on your back, it always seems to make the pain worse for me) or sitting up straight and doing abdominal breathing you know 2-4 breathing and relax your stomach muscles as much as possible (the worst thing you can do is tense up). This will actually help release the gas. Or you can try taking a heating pad or hot water bottle laying it on the floor or bed and laying face down with your stomach on it. Then breath deeply. Laying face down usually makes it easier to relax the abdominal muscles.
These methods have been helpful to me and I found them in a book called "Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Natural Approach" by Rosemary Nicol. It will give you tips to deal with immediate symptoms as well as overcoming IBS in the long run. Good luck.
Oh yes I've had IBS since I was in the 4th grade im now one year out of high school...i find i have to stay away from a lot of peanut butter and stuff cause it tends to send me into a IBS attack. Sometimes the pains feel so strong for me id swear i was gonna black out...but hey...it always passes. I know nothings wrong cause in grade 6 i was really sick and had a "upper GI" test done but it showed everything...the esophegus the stomache and the bowel etc and nothing was wrong..obviously brought on by stress(i had the upper GI done for another reason tho not for IBS) but yeah i think peanut butter makes me more susceptible to getting it.
