I take Metamucil everday, twice a day. Two hours before or two hours after that, I also take Robinul Forte once. It helps to slow the intestinal spasms. Even during my worst attacks, after taking Robinul, I have only ever gone once more, instead of 5 or 6 times with just Immodium. I also drink Heather's Tummy Teas- the fennel one really helps if you bloat with alot of gas. I have had IBS-D for over 15 years now, and this medicine is WAY better than Lomotil or any others I have tried. Good Luck! helpforibs.com

Robinul Forte is a prescription for people with IBS-D. I think you have to be predominantly having diarrhea symptoms, as it is meant to slow down the contractions and give the water a chance to "bulk up" a bit. I think if you get constipation, you wouldn't want to take it because it will only make it worse. Best of luck to everybody!

Hi Lindsey - I, like tons of us also suffer from IBS. I've been to my regular dr. & specialists both who put me on perscriptions which were no help or made it worse, on even told me to just "relax", and I thought, "Really Einstien? No kidding!". I finally was refered to a holistic practitioner about 5 years ago who suggested phyllium husk (natural fiber supplement with no additives) and flax seed oil (contains essential Omega 3 fatty acids, the kind that make oily fish so good for you). The american diets severly lacks proper fiber intake. Both psyllium & flax seed are natural supplements that you can find at Whole Foods, Wild oats, GNC and sometimes the grocery store. The psyllium husk keeps your bowels clean, sounds pleasent, no If they are clean and IBS does act up, it will be much less uncomfortable. It absorbs and passes excess waste which will help with the bloating and gas. It also bulks up your bowel movement and passes it clean, no diareaha. Flax seed oil lubricates your inside and just helps everything "flow". I also need to make sure I'm properly hydrated, make sure you drink enough water, 8 glasses through out the day, if you drink anything caffinated or alchoholic, you'll need to drink more water than the 8 glasses. Caffine and alcohol, as you probably already know, dehydrate you futher. Psyllium husk, flax seed oil and water act as cleaners to your insides, kind of like an exfolient for your stomach. Again, it doesn't "cure" anything, the IBS is triggred by stress, cure the stress, you cure the IBS. But, it makes it MUCH less uncomfortable. I take this stuff everyday, it's healthy, and has all sorts of other great benifits beside helping you be regular. I swear by it. Let me know if you try it and if it helps... -Kris
