I suffer horribly with IBS. I have had it for a very long time, although it usually doesn't linger around like it has been lately. I take a Clindex 3 times a day and an immodium 2 times a day. This regimen seems to keep my IBS under control. I also take a half of the lowest dose of Xanax for my anxiety. I saw my doctor last week and he is concerned about me being addicted to the Xanax. I only take 1/2 once a day. He seems to think if I can't go a whole day without it, I understand that is what addiction is, but I will eventually be off it with the program.

Does anyone else have issues with some of the meds they take?

overtheedge,

If you take a drug like Xanax regularly every day and your body is used to getting a specific amount, addiction is highly possible. When using these types of drugs, it's best when they are used short term and "as needed". Addiction is less likely to occur if you take Xanax once in a while as opposed to everyday.

If your doctor is concerned about you becoming addicted then I would suggest that you listen to his advice.

Dr. Andrew Weil, MD is very good and he's written many books about health and nutrition. I think you may benefit from reading his article on Irritable Bowel Syndrome. http://www.drweil.com/app/cda/drw_cda.html-command=TodayQA-questionId=6074

Thank you sunset. I have tried several of the things mentioned in this article. They haven't worked. The only thing that seems to make it all better is a Xanax. If I'm addicted, so be it, I will get off of it, with help from The Program. I am not going to worry about one more thing...

I was also disgnosed with IBS. I kept a written log of everything I ate and the time I ate it. I then took note of what I ate prior to an IBS episode. For me personally there was no indicaiton the food I was eating contributed to IBS. It was my nerves - anxiety. I'm confident the IBS will be gone (along with the symptoms of anxiety) after I finish the program.
