Is nausea a symptom of IBS? My doctor thinks I may have IBS. I feel nauseous, usually after eating. Could this be from the IBS? Does anyone else experience nausea? Thanks.

StressMess,
I used to have nausea, mine was from anxiety and depression. I also had acid reflux and gastritis several years back, which can cause nausea as well. I hope you get to the bottom of it. Good Luck! LizB "Afterall, everybody only hears what he understands." by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe |

LizB, I also wanted to ask you, do you feel that your acid reflux has improved since you have been working on and gotten your anxiety under control? THanks

Hi stressmess!Hope all's well! My daughter had nausea ALL the time...We started her on Prilosec OTC and it has Helped tremendously. The two GI doctors that I work with prescribe it every day for acid reflux, gastritis,esophagitis...etc... My daughter definatly has less stomach issues when she's in a good spot mentally but even when she's not the prilosec has helped...

Hi StressMess,
I am glad I went back to your post, I did not realize you had asked another question. I was on Nexuim several years back. What I have done is modify my diet and I no longer take that med. I was on it for about 6 months, but I really do not like to take a bunch of pills if there is something I can do to change it. What To Avoid: Why To Avoid it: Fried Food Hard to Digest/Acidic Whole Milk or milk based cooking Hard to digest Vegetable Oil or Lard Hard to Digest/Acidic Chocolate or Sweets Stimulant/Relaxes the flap/Acidic Fast Food Restaurants Hard to Digest/Acidic Spicy Foods Acidic Citrus, Tomato or Acidic Foods Acidic High Fat Content Foods Hard to Digest/Acidic Alcohol and Regular Coffee and carbonated drinks like soda Stimulant/Relaxes the flap/Acidic Things that cause gas-beans, broccoli causes belching and damage to the flap Smoking Stimulant/Relaxes the flap/Acidic This diet has allowed me to be med free. My Gastro doc had followed my progress to ensure I did not have a damaged esophogus. Sure, I cheat here and there, BUT it is all in moderation. Some things I do not even do, smoking, alcohol (I am on Zoloft & Klonopin anyway), no soda, I drink soy coffee, eliminated most of my red meat intake, I also noticed onions can casue reflux as well. Yes, when my anxiety level goes down, the acid reflux is minimal. That is why I needed to make the above dietary changes to ensure I was not damaging my esophagus. I think anxiety effects so many things in our bodies and this is just another thing I found with my anxiety. I hope this help and you can find relief. Good Luck! I dealt with nausea for much of my life. While I believe much of it was related to anxiety, there were things that exacerbated it: milk products (I'm lactose intolerant), caffeine, soda, and too much sugar (I'm also hypoglycemic). Now that I've modified my diet and have my anxiety under control, nausea is pretty much a thing of the past.
Good luck! Jen |
