I'm new to gastro problems so I'm reaching out for some feedback from the IBS (and GERD) community. Last week my doctor told me I might have some mild IBS, but the majority of my symptoms seem to be more reflective of GERD. Horrible heartburn, chronic indigestion, slow stomach emptying, getting full quickly on small amounts of food, etc. I'm also starting up on Lexapro (4th week) and have been dealing with loss of appetite--which IS slowly getting better. But to keep up my caloric intake, I've been using Ensure and Boost supplements with my meals. My stomach doesn't seem to be tolerating them well -- and I can't figure out why because both claim to be lactose free.

Has anyone else out there with GERD run into this? I'm confused!

I drink 3 Ensures a day.Need to get weight back since I am on a low fat diet for high cholesterol. I find that if I mix 1/3 cup low fat milk or water to the Ensure, it does not bother my stomach.I also eat one Activia a day, and that really helps your digestive system. As the ad says, it takes 2 weeks to see effects from Activia, and that is correct.

i too deal with GERD, the heartburn, indigestion, sour stomach, etc.. anyhow, my dr. told me to watch what i eat, and write it down when i have any upset symptoms.. i notice, when i eat red meat, spicy foods, (red sauce), like in pizza, spaghetti, or any kind of greasy food, i get it real bad.. so ill try and avoid these. and that usually helps me. give it a shot, write it down what u ate, and keep track of it when it hits. good luck

Thank for the suggestions, ladies! Vegasmary--thanks for the idea of diluting the Ensures. I'll give it a try!
