I'm currently watching this. I saw it about 4 years ago before I knew I had OCD and I think it'll be interesting to see it now.
I'll have a take on this in a little while.. Anyone else see it and have any comments? _________________________________________ "When you fear that you cannot, let that fear motivate you to prove that you can!" |

Hey Beat,
Is this the special about the woman who collects horror masks, a woman who obsessively cleans her house, a college girl who has germ phobia, and a girl who has to be a perfect 100 pounds? "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?" Jesus Christ Matthew 6:27 |

Hey Celeste, No this is the one with the girl who obsesses about her mother dying. Another girl obsesses about vomit and puke and this guy obsesses about .. well it never really says, they just show him doing a bunch of rituals to make it entertaining. _________________________________________ "When you fear that you cannot, let that fear motivate you to prove that you can!" |

Oh, I think I watched that one a while ago. Was part of her therapy to write a eulogy on her mom and pretend that she was attending the funeral/grave site? I also saw one about a girl who had to touch something as she walked by it or had to retrace her steps a certain number of times when she walked. The severity of this condition is limitless. Really puts my obsessions about health and orderliness in perspective.

thats the one!
I didn't really like the show though. I thought it was a really bad depiction of what your average OCD suffer goes through everyday. I mean how can they show the stress and anxiety that a person is feeling as a result of obsessive thoughts? It was, however, good that they showed the people as being perfectlly sane-- since most people attach a certain taboo to OCD. I guess, without having knowledge of OCD, seeing someone do something over and over again may appear to be a sign of insanity. Though, as the participants on the show said, they are aware of how ridiculous it is-- they just can't stop! Overall, it was a good show to explain the normality of the people who have OCD but it wasn't really good at explaining the entirety of the disorder. It just focused on the rituals/compulsions-- the easier part of the disorder to get over-- and explained little about how to get over the obsessive/scary thoughts-- the hardest thing to stop. _________________________________________ "When you fear that you cannot, let that fear motivate you to prove that you can!" |

I agree. the compulsions are due to those obsessive/scary thoughts so it would make more sense to highlight the root of the problem instead of exploiting the result of it. It almost contributes to the societal taboo of OCD. Oh well, MTV is in it for the ratings afterall.

I agree Celeste! It really should look at the root of the whole OCD issue the obsessive scarey thoughts. The episode doesn't even give an example of this like the Pure-O which is another type of OCD and the most difficult (I feel)

I saw that episode this past weekend too and was wondering if they would have anyone on there with pure "O". I figured they wouldn't show anybody with scary thoughts of hurting others. The girl with thoughts of her mom dying was the closest thing.
