I have recently been diagnosed with bipolar (by a few different dr's). I have been seeing this guy for abut four months and I find I am always obsessing about if he's lost interest because I told him I had bipolar. We always text message back and forth all day because we work for the same company and I find myself always needing to have my phone. If I dont have my phone, or if it needs to be charged I cant focus on anything until I have it. If I am in a meeting and cant bring my phone I cant even concentrate on the meeting. If I dont hear from him in a few hours I worry that he's lost interest because I'm crazy, and everytime it ends up being that he was busy doing work stuff. I know they are just thoughts and I'm trying so hard to change them into positive thoughts but I cant!!! Somebody please help me this obsession with the phone is taking over my life.

I was diagnosed with bipolar a few times and I started to believe it. I tried serequel and depacote and it didn't do any good. Since then I'm convinced on my own it is severe anxiety. I finally got a prescription of larazapam and it seems to work great. I take 2 1mg doses which is low. I'm not stress free but the anxious stressing over stuff has gone way way down.

I had a very similar experience as you. The only thing that helped me was to turn off my cell phone and only turn it on to check messages a specified (predetermined) number of times per day. That took the pressure off a little bit and decreased my anxiety. At least while the phone was turned off I felt in control of the situation for some reason. Maybe you could try that?

I could be wrong. but it sounds more of an addictive/compulsive behavior then a bipolar one. I know this isn't easy, but when you have worries about this guy losing interest because of your bipolar tell yourself if he loses interest it wasn't meant to be. You want someone who knows you fully and accepts and loves you.
As for checking your phone I can understand what you're going through. I had this very same issue, but with checking my emails etc It is an addiction type issue and the only way I dealt with it is as someone else mentioned gradually wean yourself away from it. Check only certain times a day and shut the phone off the rest of the time. In between checking reassure yourself with positive thoughts, listen to your cds on coffee breaks etc. Good luck and DON'T feel bad about being Bipolar! Many have this and go on to live nomal happy lives Mommy of twins |
