If something traumatic or terrible happened to you - did you find that you had to keep yourself physically busy by your actions such as getting out of the house all the time or doing the same thing, going to the same place, obsessively just so you wouldn't think of what happened? Did the event that might have even resulted in PTSD change your personality?

I moved this post from Serenel:
I can relate to this somewhat. I used to have a cleaning obsession, whereas if I didn't clean the same things everyday, in the same way I would be a wreck. I did go to a therapist for this and he said I was avoiding something in my life, past or present. I think it was my marriage, changes going on that I couldn't deal with so this was a distraction. To make a long story short, I did get over this by myself but I think the obsessive/compulsive behavior was a form of punishment for myself. Feeling like I wasn't measuring up to everyone's standards and being disappointed in myself. Thus, I had created a prison where I was stuck with "hard labor" so to speak.
