Hi I would say yes and no since I'm going throught the program a second time only getting to session 5 before. I am getting better at talking to myself positive stuff it's not easy. I fight with myself all the time to keep the negative thought's out every morning it's a fight. I'm doing session 3 starting today and really want to talk to myself better. I don't know what session you on but if you can get three to work than you can get the rest to work. You have to work on it I will be and wish you the best of luck with. It's hard but I want to do it so maybe you can think that way and take little step don't think it going to happen all at once, but little nice talk to yourself a day will help. Hey Bridgemr-
Yes, you really can conquer it. It can seem difficult at first, because you are used to thinking that way- remember it's a habit, so that's just what we all naturally fall back into if we don't hold ourselves up. No matter how difficult it may seem, don't give up.

At night it's especially hard- I'm sure it has to do with the fact that we're half asleep when that happens, and are more prone to suggestion then.

Here's something that helped me out a bit. When it happens at night, get up out of bed (to wake yourself up completely, rather than lay there agonizing). Tell yourself it's not a "real" thought- it's just the anxiety talking. Walk around a little, until you find that it's not quite as crazy as when you woke. Then pat yourself on the back- every small step counts! Then listen to the relaxation tape.

Also, don't be hard on yourself. Remember it's the anxiety, so it's not that you're a bad person, etc. The kinder you are to you, the easier it will be to calm back down. Remember: it's never as bad as it seems! And they ALWAYS do pass.

Most of my negative self talk happens in my car. I have time to kill and stop lights and so forth, so my mind goes on a tail spin of negative self talk. It's disturbing to say the least. I do try and catch myself and stop it though. It just takes a lot of time and practice.
