1. I'm introducing myself. My name is Diane, I'm 49, and I live in No. CA. I got the program 10/28, and tried to get online sooner, but had trouble. I'm enjoying the program and am on session 3. I know I have a lot of negative thoughts and sure this will help. I've been married 27 years and our kids are 22, (she recently married and moved to IN), and our son is 16. I've had anxiety, and depression probably since age 4 when my parents divorced, according to a psychologist, I saw for 6 months, 10 years ago. I only was on meds for 1 year. That's basically my story. I do have a strong, Christian faith which helps me tremendously. But I know I need to learn and practice these skills, in the course. 2. Can anyone give advice in the following two areas: a. Homeopathic sleep aids....I fall asleep right away, but wake up after 5-6.5 hours, or sooner if the dog barks...and can't get back to sleep. Right now I'm taking 'Quietude' which is working well, but when it stops...any tips? b. Doug and I are leaving for China for 8 days, beginning 11/9...have a few stresses, looking for coping tips...(no I don't have anxiety attacks, and love to fly): 1. 12 hour flight...anxious...2. part of group of 40,-what if someone doesn't like me at the beginning of trip? - tour schedule, lack of control, not much free time, and difficulty being on time...a big stressor in our marriage. I'd appreciate any tips...anyone gone through something like this? Also, this is Doug's free trip, I'm just going so we can talk about it the rest of our lives....but I have been learning a lot about China, and am looking forward to the adventure, and the historical country....Thanks for any input, and The Lord bless your day!

Well, I do use Quietude sometimes myself. I'm also using occasionally a couple natural things that my naturopath gave me but I don't recall their names. I don't have that big of a sleep issue (until lately). I also use a vitamin/mineral supplement that's been helping me sleep MUCH better.

If it were me, I'd just take the Quietude again in the middle of the night if I woke up. I also have developed habits to allow me to sleep. I don't talk on the phone after 9:00 PM. I stop negatively emotional conversations in the evening and post-pone them to a time I don't needs to sleep soon. If I go to bed after a negative conversation, then naturally I won't sleep well. I try to keep to a schedule as best I can -- but I'm not really a schedule person. Sometimes I go to bed so my body knows it's bedtime every night at that point.

I saw your other post (in a new thread today) that says you are looking for advise.

All I can say, is that I'd just PLAN on someone not liking me on the first day. Then if it doesn't happen I'll be pleasantly surprised. It sounds like you'll be really busy with little free time. This is a trip of a lifetime.

About being late. Perhaps you could pack clothes that don't need ironing and just get your beauty routine down to a minimum so you'll be ready to go on time. Prioritize being on time rather than being perfect in another area. Make sense?

Another option would be to call the Midwest Center and speak with a counselor and see what tips they offer. Like maybe bring your relaxation CD along on the trip, for example?

This is EXACTLY what happens to me. I just lay there for hours (until I have to get up) feeling anxious and trying to get comfortable. What is this "Quietude" stuff? It works?

Quietude is a brand name for a homeopathic remedy. It's made by U.S.Boiron. You can do a google search for it, but I find it in most popular grocery or drug stores.

Homeopathics are very useful. They don't OVERPOWER my body like many prescriptions do. I recommend using it as an overall strategy like I mentioned. Being quiet and peaceful an night. Maybe journaling so the thoughts aren't jumbled in your mind and they are instead committed to paper. Doing quiet activities prior to sleep. Having some movement (exercise) during the day so you're ready to sleep.

Also, Feng Shui teaches that your bedroom is ONLY for sleeping. No computers. No TVs. It's not a multi-purpose room. This sends your brain a message that when you're in the bed, it's for sleep (or a little fun... but that's another topic).
