I have a decision to make regarding a new job.. I have interviewed for two positions one I have done in the past (which is a 9-5)the other is sales(make my own schedules), I would like to take the sales postion but that means I would have to go through training,a formal test and then have someone work with me all the time for the first 3 months. Because of my anxiety (mostly social) I really don't know which to do. Do I take the job that I am familiar with or do I really take a risk and go for the big one? I am not on any meds right now.. trying to do this without. I am on session 3 in the program and I am reading Lucinda's book "Panic to Power". I realize I really have to make this decision on my own, but because I feel so negative don't think I can trust my own judgement. Any thought on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

I can see your dilemma. Take the safe route (9 - 5) or reach out for the gold ring (sales).
You say you have social anxiety. This makes me curious why you'd even consider a sales job, since it by definition would involve being social. Can you say more about this? Maybe "sell" us here in the safety of this forum why this job and you would be a great, successful fit.
It's cool that you realize you are making the decision on your own. It's also cool that you're seeking feedback here, and hopefully from family and friends, too.
You say you feel negative. Well, I have to say that 98% of people have negativity to some degree. It's about how we learn to control it. This program is evidently AWESOME for that, so you're in the right place. Again, I have to ask why you are considering sales which is historically a POSITIVE thinking position when you feel your negativity is holding you back. Can you say more about that?

I'm hoping that asking questions will draw out more information and as you're telling the story you'll find your answer within yourself... it's the old "Relationships as Mirrors" technique. :-)

Hi New2mississippi,

I am actually in the same boat you are. I am going to be offered a job as a manager and I am really nervous about it because I will be dealing with parents, children, and just a lot of new stuff. But see, the thing is is that I am already thinking negative about the job. I honestly say take the risk. Look at this job as excitement and positive. I say, go with your heart on this one. Be excited, there is no such thing as failure no matter what happens, and think positive.

Though, whatever you choose is the right decision and don't ever think you failed. Smiler

I would take the 9 - 5 and consider that you are making your own schedule. giving yourself time to empower. familiar would be a warm welcome while you are working hard on changing life long negative behaviors. and getting used to a new state, which, by the way, i live in too. exercise and meditation will enable you to live a positive life off of medications. i practice yoga and find it extremely helpful. there is not a right or wrong answer. the decision that gives you most comfort is the right one for you. you will know your answer from a place of peace.
