What is this difference? This morning I must have experienced one or the other.

I woke up from a very deep sleep feeling slighlty depressed and anxious. Then I got this sensation like I wasn't in my body. I was awake doing things I need to/usually do in the morning like brushing my teeth and dressing for work. I was cognizant (sp) of my surroundings and where I had to go--the bus stop. But all during this time including the bus ride--we're talking almost 2 hours--I felt depersonalized/derealized.

Based on this description which "de" did I have?
Thanks.

"Depersonalization is an 'alteration' in the perception or experience of the self so that one feels 'detached' from, and as if one is an 'outside' observer of, one's mental processes or body. A feeling of watching oneself act, while having no control over a situation."

I think it sounds like depersonalization. Derealization is more like the outside world feels strange and unfamiliar. I get both for sure! If I am wrong , someone please correct me. Im sorry you felt that way. I totally and completely feel you. I had those feelings today , In fact. I just floated with it and it doesnt last as long

Holly J,

They both sound unpleasant. That morning was definitely unpleasant for a few hours.
