Has anyone heard of the Linden Method used in reducing/eliminating anxity? After reading "The Science Behind," it appears to make the assertion that anxiety is similar to Pavlov's experiment in conditioning dogs. It also talks about the segment of the brain called the amygdala and how it becomes responsible for the fight or flight response to anxiety-inducing incidents.

All very logical; BUT, I cannot for the life of me figure out exactly what's on the CD's. I do own and am using Lucinda's method with great success but am also curious about this.

I'd really appreciate some feedback if anyone's tried it-or can figure out what's being sold... the website is www.panic-anxiety.com.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the link, Holly. I wonder if anyone who already has a pretty firm grasp (successfully completed this program) on her/his anxiety has tried it?

I'm still pretty interested (and to some degree agree with the idea that the more we focus on health issues- esp. anxiety and mild depression- the more it contributes to the problem).

I think I may try it- it may be the final boost I need to get on with my life. I'll let you know what I think if you'd like...

Hey, I agree with David... your quick and encouraging responses have certainly made me feel better. Wink

I went to the site and I couldn't figure out what was being sold, except a book, and CD's. It seems there is guided imagery, meditation, I don't know what else. What confuses me is it says it will get rid of panic in a few minutes! How do you do that?

The good thing I guess is the money back guarantee. But you know, Lucinda has given the program to some people who could not afford her program. I think that shows where her sweet heart is...this other program is pricey and yet - what are you getting - you don't know except they say it is simple and fast! It took us a long time to get anxious and panicky, how can it be that easy? I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who knows what its about!

Blessings,
Jackie

SmilerI wanted to share with yous that I've just purchased the Linden method. I think God was sending me a message. Yesterday, I reluctantly decided that I was going to try Lexapro. I wasn't happy about it nor did I really want to but I felt at wits end with this panic and anxiety. This morning I wanted to do more research about Lexapro and other ant anxiety and depressant meds and 3rd on the list was Lindens message. I clicked on it because I ultimatley do not want to go on meds. And just so you know, I've also recently started the caoching program with a wonderful gal named Toni. She didn't suggest that I go on meds but said it was an option and that I shouldn't beat myself up about it. I first decided to try Lexapro because I saw some posts here saying how good it was. I did some research last night and found other posts on here that said it was bad and hard to get off of and both starting and stopping caused bad side effects. Well, I have enough of my own problems and don't want icky side sffects. So, I want to tell you I'm so poor that I can't hardly afford diapers for my kids but- you cannot put a price on your well being and sanity. That's why I decided to start the coaching program, it's expensive but with an 86% success rate, I'm going to be successful. With buying the Linden program this morning, it's from $109.00 to $180.00 and they offer payment plans and also a 365 day money back guaruntee of the purchase price. I've only just begun going through the stuff, when you order the paper program you also recieve the computer version so you can get started right away. Lindens mentioned one thing that my coach also talked to me about and that is the reprogramming of the little almond shaped organ in your head called the "amygdala", so I knew there had to be something there and that I had to get it. If I'm unhappy, I can return it. Now, it does say that when doing the Linden method, you should forget everything that you've ever learned and heard about anxiety and all because if you don't you'll be constantly questioning and comparing and your amygdala won't believe what you're trying to tell it. Same thing that Lucinda says about your negative thoughts. There's a lot of simularities between the two. I'm going to run this by my coach and still do the Attacking anxiety program w/ coach, but for me, I'm looking at it all as a getting well and healthy change in life. A make over so to speak of my brain and thinking process. It all helps. It also says something that I've been thinking about since I've joined here and that is, "if we constantly come back to here and live here with all our anxietites and problems, we're still constantly focussing on them and dwelling on them and re-enforcing the fact that we are anxiety ridden people, how are we ever going to get to the point where we're not anxiety ridden people?" If you notice, the people that over come this, don't come back here. They don't live here and they don't keep basically telling themselves that there's something wrong with themselves. When there better, they don't come back....Now don't get me wrong, when I've been in trouble, this place has saved me and has offered some terriffic people and ideas, but I don't want to be here for the rest of my life. I'm giving it no more than 14 weeks and hopefully less. By coming here, I'm re-enforcing the idea that there is something wrong with me. I don't know if any of you can understand, but I think so. The whole idea about it all is that"It's all in your head when you get down to it." I'll try to keep you posted on how the Linden program is working. It offers free e-mail and phone support also with Psychologists. So, it's actually pretty good so far, for the money. He has also suffered with anxiety and depression and he has over come it with this exact method. With the program you get his 9 no nonsense (pillars) or ideas that saved him and a lot of visualisation techniques and relaxation techniques. Anyway, I'll keep you posted- wish me luck!

Hi Therese Michele!
Thanks for your response... guess what, I ordered it too! What's that saying about great minds? hee/hee

I spent the morning downloading the MP3 version but can't get it to sync to my ipod (I'm pretty inept at technical things; guess I'll have to wait for my husband to get home- hopefully he won't notice that I bought this program too...) While I was downloading, I did listen briefly to segments, and I liked what I heard. The visualization and relaxation is AWESOME!!!

I also read a little of the PDF file and although I am currently on meds, and SSRI's DO work for some people, I think that mainstream medicine pushes pills harder than the Mexican drug cartel! It's ridiculous. Thankfully, I'm tapering or have successfully tapered off my perscriptions. I've been using a lot of alternative therapies- acupressure, vitamins/herbal supplements and my body has responded very positively. I think it's just relieved I'm not trying to poison it anymore.

Anyway, I completely agree with the idea that staying on the message boards reinforces our obsession with anxiety/depression. At some point, you just gotta move on. On the other hand, I do like to encourage other people and give them hope that if I got through it, so can they. However, I've noticed that only a couple of long-time regular posters strictly give encouragement; many of the "veterns" seem to be in a similar place as me- and I've only been here since jan. '08! So, yes, i completely understand where you're coming from.

Here's what I think. WE know ourselves best. We know what will work and what won't; we know what we'll commit to. Deep down, we know how to get out, and what works (or doesn't) for others may not work for us.

So, here's to us and continued success! Keep in touch.
My prayers are with you,
Emily

Fischee,
I too had read the linden method but was afraid it wouldn't work it must all be about changing your way of thinking. If you will notice a thought has a feeling response with it.as you can see I have been on here a long time mostly just read other post.I have never worked the program like I should it would work if a person worked it like a job the problem with me I have only phobias as long as I stay in my safe area I don't have panic attacks,I have been on an anti-depressant for I guess 25 years I would love to get off it I have a lot of colon trouble and I believe it is why.

I think the medicine has helped all my worring my worry about my health If I was over my fear of going places out of my safe place I would be okay.Let us know how you do if only pm us I was courious but I had spent a lot of money on this program and didn't really give it a fair chance the thing is I have too much fear to face my fear and the program says you have got too usually I just sit back and sit there and get no where and this stinks I am tired of living like this

I haven't heard of the Linden method one but I will research it. I started on Paxil 4 months ago, no luck, Lexapro, 2 months ago and know I'm on Zoloft. Haven't had an attack in almost a week but I don't like the feel these drugs give me.

Lots of methods work. The key is actually doing the workbook assignments and practicing awareness of our thoughts. then making the decision to replace the anxious or depressive thoughts as soon as we notice them.

Alot of people want to shop around and find some "magic" method. I actually know alot about the amygdala. It is essentially the emotional center of the brain. A pea sized organ. And it is part of our instinctual response system. Sort of an early warning system that can become over-reactive if we do not stay aware that our emotions have been triggered and take action.

Regardless of all the biology and neurochemistry. It still comes down to making a decision to change and do the work. It does pay off.

Good luck,
Mitzy

I have the Linden Method also...it is very informative and has very good info. on the cd's...again the bottom line isas mitzy said to do the work. There is no "magic" potion or product that will fix this, but alot of hard work.
Charles Linden was agoraphobic and was housebound and unable to leave his couch at one point he says. I do believe anxiety becomes conditioned just as we salivate when thinking of a pickle. He talks alot about distraction and it being the key to oevrcoming anxiety, also not to search for answers and revisit dr. after dr. once you are given a good bill of health as this only fuels the fire. I used to come here alot awhile ago and myself wondered if I was just making things worse by hearing symptoms and such, even though I wanted to help I had to detach myself. I absolutely love his relaxation cd...I have several and they are good , but could not bring me to the state I could get into with htis one. You know how we all have certain things that will relax us while they do nothing for others..this was mine. I found the wind is my relaxation trigger. There is also the panic elliminator(sp)cd which you play while having a panic and it will tell you to just let it come, to try and make it as bad as you can, the point is when you do this you find it loses it's steam because it loses power when you are not afraid of it. He makes you really understand that you really aren't losing your mind. Distraction is huge.....something to occupy your mind other than your miserable thoughts and it is hard at first, but if you can really let something envelope your mind it works. Good luck with it. Michelle
