Sorry I couldn't find my original post, but thank you all for your words of support during my son's hospital stay. We guess he just had the stomach flu, and I can't say I handled the whole thing in the best way. I cried when they came to draw blood. Everytime he just looked at me with those big green eyes begging me not to let them stick him. Then they fused at me to make him drink. For every sip he took, he would go to the bathroom at least four times. I could hardly take it. I'd have given anything to trade place with him. BUT, thankfully he's better and we were able to finally make the trip home. His regular doc is putting him on Prilosec and sending him to a therapist since he's a worrier like me. We're going to work on talking with him more, but we only get him 2 days a week during the school year.
When we got home, we turned around and my father in law went back to the hospital. It was a long week and he fought a good fight. He's with the Lord now so please rejoice that his long time wish to meet Jesus has arrived.
If you don't have a living will, please think about getting one. The decisions the family had to make were heart-wrenching. Besides Alzheimer's and prostate/bone cancer, his liver began to fail and then came the seizures, one of which left him paralized and bleeding in the brain. As his respirations slowed to zero, some would have said it was the Lord calling him home, but modern medicine allows for ventilators. When you are emotional and tired and not ready to let a loved one go, the decision isn't an easy one even for the strong in-laws I have. They knew he wouldn't want artificial breathing but couldn't utter the words at the time. I guess I'm just saying please think about your own wishes and the extent you wish to be kept here on earth. Just something weighing on my mind now I wanted to share.
Thank you all for your love and prayers for the last few months. I count this group as one of my blessings. Beverly
