I have to go tomorrow and get my other two wisdom teeth out. LAst time I was there they gave me a lot of novocaine and it made me shake tons. I asked him to give me something different this time, he agreed. I felt sooo lightheaded and dizzy and sick after they pulled my teeth that it took me a half and hour to get myself up and out of the dentist chair. I absolutly hate that feeling and that's what I'm scared of most. I'm afraid I'll pass out or something. Even if I don't, that feeling scares me so badly. I've been a nervous wreck over it all week and I need to get a grip, I know. Does anyone have any suggestions? HELP

Hi Carla. I, too, have problems with visiting the dentist - you are certainly not alone. Things are better since I found a new dentist a few years ago who understands my situation completely. I know that I had a problem with novocaine as it has a little adreneline in it, so he switched it for another local anaesthetic without the adreneline. I quite forget what it was called. But, I just wanted to say that there are options. He is so good that he wants me to put my hand up whenever I feel fearful and he will take a little break. I hope you have a dentist like mine. I think it's just the feeling that you are somehow confined. Do what they say on Lesson 8 pf this course... always tell the dentist, hairdresser, etc. that you have problems of anxiousness and feeling trapped and I am sure they will help you alomg. Good luck, and I know you will do just fine!

flyer,

thanks so much for responding! Yeah, it seems like most people with anxiety, if not all, have a problem with the dentist. I'm glad he's switching the novacaine this time at least so I won't get shaky. I'm just nervous. He knows that I'm nervous and everything and he told me if I feel pain or anything to raise my hand and he'll stop also. So that's good. I'm just nervous about the spacey dizzy light headed feeling. I just have to float through it as they say and try to stay calm. I'm going to be Ok. I will write when it's all over and I'm feeling a little better and let everyone know how it went. I've just go to be brave. I'll be SO happy once this is all over with and then I'll know I won't have to get anymore wisdom teeth out! woo

Well if anyone cares I got through the dentist and it wasn't SO bad. I got different novacaine and didn't shake, so that helped a lot. The dentist was really nice and so was the nurse. Wasn't so bad. I'm alive and recovering.
