For my job our department is required to take this class called STATE OF MIND (SOM). The principles of State of Mind are pretty much the program at the Midwest Center. It was interesting to listen to but as I sat there listening I thought how much better the program is at the Midwest Center!!

Anyway, it was interesting hearing my peers discuss how they applied SOM to their lives in 24 hours. Hearing about peoples experiences really brings you back to the fact that we are all in the same situation. Something you forget when you are lost in your mind. Also as I sat there listening, I started reflecting on how far I've come, from being unable to drive at night time, hold a job, pick up a phone...to having this great job, going to college and yes, answering my phone in a professional manner :-).

Life truly is good. Enjoy what you have. Stay present and realize that its not what is happening to you that is making the situation but how you are reacting to it.

Don - I'm sorry to hear you've fallen off your path a little. I hope you find your way back. I know how hard it can be. Just know that you are doing your best and it's okay to feel down and maybe try to do something special for yourself.

During my State of Mind training, we each had to speak about ourselves. I hate showing the weakness that I am terrified to speak in front of others. So I was sitting there listening to everyone else, I kept telling myself...everyone feels anxious about talking about themselves. And most people are so worried about themselves they won't notice that I'm scared too and so what if they do I'm human. I was getting a little carried away with my fears when the woman before me started speaking about herself and she was funny. She really made me laugh...and that laughter totally brought me back and put me at ease. Amazing how a little laughter it truly the best medicine sometimes.

I'm happy my posted was read :-)

i have also fallen this year but i think a lot of things in our life is there to test us. i am picking myself up and starting again. my anxiety and depression are at an all time high at the minute. with a little strenth and courage i am going to get through this bad time and also with the help of my programme. iam starting from session one again and am going to complete the whole programme. already speaking and seeing what other people have posted i am feeling better. even if it is only a little better. here in the uk there isnt a lot of help with anxiety and depression and although everybody seems miles away it makes it easy for me to feel comforted by all you messages. take care and hope to speak soon.
