The past two nights I have had some vivd dreams that have caused me to wake up in a panic. The dreams weren't so much anxiety causing, but when I awoke I was shaky and anxious. I tried going back to sleep, would nod off, then jerk awake and feel progressively worse each time. The first time it was after an almost full nights sleep (6 hours), last night was the worst as I had just fallen asleep and woke with my mind racing and thoughts I couldn't get out of my head. I had listened to the relaxation tape prior to sleeping and tried listening again, but I couldn't modify my breathing to help calm me. I finally calmed down after taking a Xanax, but now I'm worried about what's next when I try to sleep.
I have listened to lesson 6 as many as ten times, and am actually up to lesson 4. Any suggestions on how to control the problems with my dreaming? |

I'm sorry but can't think of any way to stop dreams from occuring. I'm wondering why you have jumped to session 6 while still doing session 4??
It's really suggested that we follow the program as set out and not jump ahead as each session teaches us skills and gives us tools to help with the next session. Have you been doing the workbook for each session and keeping a good journal daily? I would suggest going back over session 3 again or even listening to 1-3 again at least once. It's reccomened to do each session over 1 week. I don't know if you started the program on the same date you registered or not. I can't say enough about sticking with a session in all aspects and working through to each new session and not moving forward until you have finished completely all parts. This will bring you much greater results and that's what we all want for ourselves and each other. Try also to get into a relaxed mode at least an hour or more before going to bed. If your mind is quiet and calm it just may help you sleep without the panic attacks and bad dreams. keep a nightly routine if you can, make it a ritual to not be using your brain by say 9pm if you go to bed by 10-10:30. It has worked for me very well for 5 months now. I really tried to cover as much as I could think of that might help. Wishing you a good night's sleep. BELIEVE YOU CAN CONQUER ANYTHING~ AND YOU WILL !! I DID IT, YES !!!!! |

Sorry, I meant I've listened to lesson 2, 6 steps to ending panic attacks (the "6" must have stuck in my head) multiple times. I go back to the lesson 2 tape because the bulk of my problems are panic attacks that come out of the blue.
Thank you for the advice on relaxing earlier, I'll see if that helps. |

I am so glad that I am not alone in my attacks that have always happened at night. Mine start between me still somewhat being awake and starting to fall asleep. It catches me off guard and I fight to wake up to breath but it get worse me fighting to wake up. What I heard some one in one of the tapes say is just go with it and take it as a practice that is accurring. That gave me peace to know I am now learning to manage them. I am just so glad I am not alone and I finally understand these crazy episodes are panic attacks and I am not going to die! Thank you for allowing me to speak.
