Ok, this is my 1st time checking in with my peer support group -- I'm not sure why I was so resistant to "chatting." I have never been to a chat room before so bear with me if my etiquette is a bit off. Unfortunately, I actually have to leave now, but at least I can see what this is like now. I will check this out again later today when the New England cold weather drives me back indoors. H&G (Hi & Goodbye).

Thanks for responding Don. I'm going to start leaning on others in this group, and hopefully be of some help too. I feel a bit off today but I'm trying not to make a big deal about it; more of a down feeling than anxiety. Anyway, I noticed your wish was for me to be blessed. Thank you!! I'm unsure of your faith (obviously) but I am a Christian -- I didn't put this in my profile because I have found that can sometimes build walls b/w myself and others before they get to know who I am; I prefer for people to get to know me. FYI, I feel most anxious when changing jobs -- these have been the only times I have experienced panic attacks. Otherwise, I have I guess what you would you call "generalized anxiety." I am told I will be promoted again soon. Hence, I figured this would be a real good time to start this program. I start session 3 today, which I am about to tackle in a short while. Thanks again Don. Please let me know if you need anything -- catch ya later...

Hi Chris,

Nice to see your post, I have found this website to be more than resourceful, the people are very kind, supportive and they completely understand just about anything and everything. This is a great place to just browse through the history in the forum of your choice, you will certainly learn a lot and gain a lot of insight into some things you probably didnt know were related to anxiety and depression Smiler or, if you ever have any questions or comments feel free to post and respond, its the people who put energy in that get good energy out! I hope you are proud of yourself for taking the first big steps, working the program and reaching out. Leaning on others is something I have always struggled with and I have eliminated a lot of stress by implementing the program and continuing to learn. I hope to see you around and please keep me posted! (session 3 is my favourite)

Best wishes and cheers to a better way of living life!

Chris,

You will defintely benefit from using this forum. I think everyone is a little hesitant to write their first post, so don't dread on it. There is nothing wrong with your hesitation and your opinions and ideas are no less deserving of attention and respect than anyone else's.

Best of luck to you, and I'm sure you will find this forum helpful.

Hi everyone,
I had the worst episode with anxiety today. I don't think it was actually anxiety though. It may have been a panic attack. I've never experienced these feelings so severe, but then I've never allowed myself to be so closed in. I had an MRI this afernoon of my lower back. I knew I was slight clostrophobic as elevators and close areas have always made me uncomfortable. To make a long story short I was inside the tunnel I'll call it for less than 6 minutes but felt like 30 when they had to pull me out. I tried very hard to prevent the feelings I felt coming. I tried the deep breathing but it got faster and faster till I began to fill I couldn't get my breath and I was being smothered to death. I felt like I was literally going to die. I barely could function to drive home and then had to stay outside for almost an hour to feel free. I couldn't even allow my husband to touch me for comfort when I got home. I just had to have lots of space. Has anyone ever experienced this?? I must have this test done, but no way can I handle that! I've only been on the program a week but I can say the breathing didn't help. I even tried talking to God in my head and thinking lord help me, but it was out of control. Any advice??

I have had many trips to the MRI tunnel and I will agree that there not fun! I do self talk and try and drown out that God aweful noise. I also make the tech doing the scan aware of my anxiousness and he has talked me through it on his microphone (giving me updates on how much longer). It helped. I just stay in that moment and know that that moment is not forever. I relate well to the feeling of being out of sorts when it's over and wanting to just feel free. Closed in places are difficult for people even if they don't suffer with anxiety. You did well and God must of heard ya cause your still hear to talk about it. lol Accept that what you went through was difficult and then release the fear about it. Thats the best thing we can do for ourselves. Hope your test results are one of a positive outcome.
